For the ongoing safety of our staff, visitors & customers we have kept in place the majority of our Covid-19 safety measures. We encourage everyone to wear face coverings when moving around the building but these can be removed once seated in the auditorium. The automatic social distancing has been slightly reduced and now blocks off one seat either side of a booking so please do think about this when choosing your seats so that we can minimise the amount of unbookable seats. We ask everyone visiting or working in kinokulture to be aware of the latest advice from the UK Government on COVID-19, and to follow that advice to minimise the risk of the virus spreading. Tucked away in the south of England, Rupert & Jan Grey have been living their lives the way they see fit. Rupert (66) is a practicing lawyer & photographer, Jan (66) a bereavement visitor. They have raised three daughters in an old drafty cottage and retirement is on the horizon. At this pivotal moment, they are invited to a human rights festival in Bangladesh as guests of honor and they decide to drive there in their family car - a notoriously battered 1936 Rolls Royce. Rupert believes in sabbaticals not retirement, so they ship the Rolls to Mumbai and motor across India to Dhaka. They fall into company with tea-wallahs and maharajahs, dodge tribal conflicts and battle border officials ultimately landing their car in the hands of the Bangladeshi Customs. Marking the 500th anniversary of Raphael's death, the greatest exhibition ever held of his works took place in Rome. Exhibition on Screen was granted exclusive access to this once-in-a-lifetime show. With over two hundred masterpieces, including paintings and drawings – over a hundred of which have been brought together for the first time – this major exhibition celebrates the life and work of Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino. Our favourite film of the year so far! Yuri lives in Cité Gagarine, a vast housing project in Ivry-sur-Seine on the outskirts of Paris. It was opened in the 1960s by the famous Russian cosmonaut, after whom both the building and its young resident are named. Now in a state of disrepair, the building is to be torn down, but this once-thriving hotbed of leftist political activism still hosts a community of residents unhappy at having to leave. None more so than Yuri, who not only figures out a way to stay beyond the council-mandated evacuation order, but to create his own orbital spacecraft within it. Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh have skilfully adapted their acclaimed short into an inventive, frequently funny and moving drama. The themes they contend with – racism, social and economic inequality, community action – are handled with an impressive lightness of touch and carried mostly by newcomer Alséni Bathily's accomplished central performance, allowing us to accompany Yuri on his increasingly otherworldly journey. Beautifully shot by Victor Seguin, Gagarine is a dazzling and wholly original take on modern-day city life. We are very pleased to welcome The Mayor Of Oswestry, Councillor Mark Jones, to open our festival screenings. Sweetheart Marley Morrison's knockout debut feature 'Sweetheart' is a sharply observed coming-of-age story that will make you wince and laugh in painful recognition of universal truths. 17-year-old AJ (Nell Barlow) is not one of life's shiny, happy people. A family holiday at a caravan park in Dorset is her idea of hell. A moody misfit, she dresses for concealment and lets everyone know that she would rather be anywhere else. Then she spies flirty, free-spirited lifeguard Isla (Ella-Rae Smith) who might just be the girl of her dreams. Can AJ dare to take a first step on the road to happiness? A festival favourite which debuted at the BFI Flare LGBTQ+ Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Glasgow Film Festival & Best First Feature at Inside Out Toronto. Found Family Found Family is a short film written by Cassandra Burge and directed by Esmée Lavalette. Found Family follows Elyse and her issues on how to come out to her homophobic parents and wanting to meet her long distance girlfriend for the first time. This is an exciting queer story that will resonate with a lot of people within the LGBTQ+ community, but other audiences as well. Rhiw Goch tells the journey of being gay in rural Wales from the 1950's onwards, the barriers that George & Reg had to overcome and the friendship the two couples built. Inspired by Mike Parker's Memoir Rhiw Goch. Oliver Sacks: His Own Life Oliver Sacks: His Own Life explores the life and work of the legendary neurologist and storyteller, as he shares intimate details of his battles with drug addiction, homophobia, and a medical establishment that accepted his work only decades after the fact. Sacks, known for his literary works Awakenings and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, was a fearless explorer of unknown cognitive worlds who helped redefine our understanding of the brain and mind, the diversity of human experience, and our shared humanity. The film features exclusive interviews with Sacks conducted just weeks after he received a terminal diagnosis, and months prior to his death in August 2015, and nearly two dozen deeply revealing and personal interviews with family members, colleagues, patients, and close friends, including  Jonathan Miller, Robert Silvers, Temple Grandin, Christof Koch, Robert Krulwich, Lawrence Weschler, Roberto Calasso, Paul Theroux, Bill Hayes, Kate Edgar, and Atul Gawande, among others. Around The World In 80 Days is a French-Belgian animated adventure film in which an irresponsible frog and a monkey who dreams of becoming an explorer accept a challenge to circumnavigate the globe. He recruits a group of local miners to dig a tunnel underneath no man's land, from the allied trenches to the German trenches, in hopes of successfully setting off bombs from below the German line and saving the allied war effort.
