Update August 2022 What an astonishing first year of teaching! Since starting our first year in October 2021 teaching 24 children in Holy Trinity Primary School, we have expanded more than we ever thought we would and end the academic year with 66 children in 3 schools with the addition of Bryn Offa Primary and The Meadows Primary. Children are learning violin, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums and voice and almost all are intending to carry on their lessons next year. We have been in receipt of a huge number of pre-loved instruments we have been able to put to use and these are being used by the children we teach. The charity has plans for development next year but relies totally on support from the local community to offer continuing lessons. Fundraising is a vital part of the charity's activities in order to maintain and develop its service and Music MOB has been delighted by the local support it has received. Through the year we have received grants from various local institutions and groups, as well as generous donations from individuals. We ask anyone who feels in a position to support Music MOB in however small or large a way to consider us as a recipient. Launch Concert After a couple of postponements, Music MOB presented its Launch Concert at the Marches School at the end of June featuring performances from many local musicians. Taking part were Porthywaen Senior and Training Bands, the Orthopaedic Male Voice Choir, local Rock Band, the Axe Lads, youth choir, the Clefhangers, wind band, the Clariphones and soloists, singer Jacob Fradley and saxophonist Kathy Clynes, all of whom performed without payment. The charity's Patron, international pianist Martin Roscoe was in the audience and was delighted with the quality of the music as well as the progress of the charity. The evening was a huge success with many people suggesting it might become an annual event. A huge £1,100 was raised through ticket sales, sale of refreshments, a terrific raffle and donations. Chorister Taster Session Singers from Music MOB's three partner schools were invited by Mike Donkin, Musical Director of St Oswald's Parish Church to participate in a 'taster' session as a chorister. They were able to try on the uniform, sing in the choir stalls and enjoy a demonstration of the church organ by Organist, Gerry Howe. Two of the children have gone on to join the choir. Family Fun Day The Family Fun Day, a hugely popular event which had been missing from Oswestry's social calendar due to the pandemic, returned to Cae Glas Park in July. We were delighted that organiser, Danielle Edwards, nominated Music MOB to be the charity to receive the profits from the event. The day was opened by Oswestry's Mayor, Jay Moore, who also judged the hotly-contested Fancy Dress competition. There was a host of local musical talent performing on the bandstand, as well as a set from Greenwich Youth Band who had travelled to the area for a number of concerts. Representatives of the charity spent the day at their stand answering questions about charity as well as offering various children's activities. The Big Busk Friend of the charity, Sue Box, organised a 'Big Busk' during Oswestry's Food Festival in June. Groups and individuals turned up throughout the day to sing at The Cross, raising money for Music MOB. The weather stayed fine and all the participants enjoyed singing. Another big thank you from the charity for this amazing support of our activities. | | Developments for Music MOB The charity is in a position to increase its lessons from 66 children to 90 children for the next academic year. VIolin and woodwind tuition will grow in our existing schools and, as the charity has benefited from donations of various brass instruments, we will be offering brass tuition to 6 children in the Meadows Primary, Additionally we will be able to offer some lessons to children in another local Primary School and invitations have gone out to those which have shown an interest in being the next Partner School. We have been invited to form both a choir and a recorder ensemble at Holy Trinity School and those will also start at the beginning of the next academic year.
