NEWSLETTER UPDATE

The Parish Council would like to would like to pass on its sincere condolences to the family and friends of former Parish Councillor John Guppy, who sadly passed away last month. We would also like to thank former Parish Council Chairman John Gittins, who has kindly written the following piece about his former colleague on the Council:

"John Guppy came to live in Ruyton in 1978 when he and Rhianna bought Clifton House, a farm house on the Little Ness Road out of Ruyton. John and Rhianna lived there for around forty years, eventually moving to a bungalow by Platt Bridge.

John was a delightful person, unassuming and yet full of common sense. Some people talk, but John was a doer. He served on the Parish Council for seventeen years including nine years as Vice Chairman. As Chairman of the Council in July 2002 I said "that I was saddened to have received a resignation letter from John Guppy, who had served the Council faithfully over a great number of years, and during that time he carried out an immense amount of work on behalf of the Council, particularly so to do with the Cliffe. His presence and influence in future will be sadly missed".

Sadly John has now died, but he will be well remembered by those of us who knew him, and Ruyton is a better place because of him."
