Shoppers at a Shropshire market can see portraits of market hall traders in the Visual Art Network Gallery upstairs in the market until 26th May.

 

An official launch takes place at the Market Gallery on Saturday [MAY 5] from 1pm until 3pm, when members of the public can meet some of the featured traders, and the artist, in person.

 

Free portrait painting workshops will  take place at the Market Hall Gallery on May 9 and 16 from 10am until 12.30pm and 1.30pm until 4pm.    Sessions are limited to six people per session. Pre-booking is essential.  Drawing boards, easels and some art materials will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies as well.

SALOPIAN BRASS TO PLAY SHREWSBURY QUARRY

 

Salopian Brass will play the Quarry Bandstand on June 3 from 1pm to 3pm.

 

The two-hour performance is free and starts at 1pm.

Anyone interested in joining the band, in particular anyone who plays the tenor horn, can contact Sarah Carline, secretary, on (01743) 792492.

Practice sessions are held every Thursday from 7.30pm until 9pm at Emmanuel Church, Harlescott.

A new stall based within Shrewsbury’s is Risdon`s Barber`s Shop.  With a full barber service including gent` grooming, haircuts, wet shaving and children`s haircuts.

 

It is the only barber/hairdressers in Shrewsbury to offer a traditional wet shaves/cut-throat service and to use and supply American Crew official men’s grooming products.

 

When a space opened up at the Market Hall I was thrilled as I was already doing children’s cuts for Compost Kids so I already have a client base there. It’s a really great atmosphere, everyone looks out for each other. I love it!”

 

Risdon’s is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am until 4pm and from 8am until 4pm on Saturdays.

NEW Ruyton Community Wildlife Group

                             May 16   7pm in the Memorial Hall, Ruyton XI Towns                           

Following the success of the otter surveys last year, the Ruyton Community Wildlife Group is to be launched on May 16^th 2012 (see the attached poster for details).  The group will be mapping the parish’s habitats and undertaking reptile surveys at two local sites.  This is one of several community groups in north Shropshire, who are helping to improve our knowledge of the county’s natural environment.
