Oswestry Coalition for Peace
An anthology of writings on peace and conscientious objection during the 1st World War has just been published by Oswestry Coalition for Peace. Entitled When Men Refuse to Fight, the 44-page booklet focusses on and remembers some of those who championed peace and spoke out against the War.
The publication includes correspondence and news items from the Oswestry & Border Counties Advertizer, statements made by conscientious objectors who were detained at Park Hall Camp, Oswestry and elsewhere, and poems and prose by Bertrand Russell, Hermann Hesse, Carl Jung, Margaret Sackville, Corder Catchpool, Ellis Humphrey Evans (Hedd Wyn) and others.
When Men Refuse to Fight is priced at £3 and is currently available from Honeysuckle Wholefoods (where white Peace poppies can also be bought), Oswestry Museum, Oswestry Library, Booka, Oswestry Heritage Centre, The John Hughes Memorial Chapel, Pontrobert and OCP members.
