Upcoming Events at the Willow Gallery

Current Exhibition: Autumn Open featuring the Batik Guild
Saturday 4th October to Saturday 8th November

Batik is an art form which has become well known in this country as a versatile medium. Decorating cloth using wax and dye has been practiced for centuries and continues in many parts of the word, this exhibition shows a range of work from artists across the country. Our open exhibition features paintings, sculpture, photographs, collage and mixed media.

Alison Holt Talk
Saturday 11th October, 11.30 AM, free event in the gallery
Alison will give insight into her free hand embroidery working methods and documents the story of her embroidered sweater, a collaboration with London based fashion designer, Steven Tai. Alison will discuss her 30 year career and invite a Q & A session.
 
Batik - A non traditional approach - Demonstration with Jenny O’ Leary
Saturday 18th October, 11am to 3pm, free event in the gallery
Jenny O'Leary will demonstrate the traditional technique of Batik - hot wax resist - using a non traditional approach. In her work Jenny frequently uses tissue paper as the base for her batiks, she will demonstrate this and  also batik on fabric.
This demonstration will compliment the work of Jenny and other Batik artists currently exhibiting with The Batik Guild as part of the Autumn Open exhibition.
Jenny is a practicing artist and tutor offering courses in Oswestry where she lives, she also travels around the UK giving talks demonstrations and workshops on a range of textile techniques which she uses in her work.

Craft Fair

After the success of last year’s craft fairs the Willow Gallery in Oswestry is pleased to launch its new 2014 program of fairs, celebrating local creativity, skill and imagination.

Robin Nolan Trio

Simply put The Robin Nolan Trio are one the world’s best known and most admired Gypsy Jazz outfits. Amsterdam based Robin Nolan has been lauded for his musical genius and sensibilities by the late George Harrison, Willie Nelson, and Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman.
Expect some of the finest, hottest guitar playing you are ever likely to hear!…

Keen Eye: Draw & Paint with David Bannister
Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th November. 10am to 4pm
You will practice and improve your observational skills through sketching at speed and drawing movement. It will challenge preconceptions about what drawing is through expression and imagination, gesture and movement.
You will develop qualities of energy, movement and life to define the character and essence of a subject. Such experiences may enhance not only your drawing skills but give substance and value to how you define and record the world around
you.

Stained Glass Decorations with Jenny Newall
Saturday 1st November. 10am to 4pm
Create your own unique piece of stained glass decorative artwork using traditional copper-foiling techniques under expert guidance from professional stained glass artist Jenny Newall.
£45 including all materials
 
Linocut Printmaking with Ian Philips
Due to popular demand Ian’s Phillips will be running a second Print Making workshop this year.
Saturday 6th December, 10am to 4pm
A fantastic opportunity to explore a variety of Lino Cut techniques and hand burnishing printing with this experienced professional print maker. Minimum age – 18.
What to bring-Apron, sketch paper, pencil, Biro and some pictures/drawings/photo’s you would like to produce as a linocut. As simple and bold as possible. Drawing/sketch should be 14 cm x 23 cm either portrait or landscape.
£45 including all materials.
Please book in advance due to limited spaces.

Run by Lindsay Chaplin from Lindsay’s Cakery, the Willow Eatery serves a range of delicious home-baked cakes, tasty lunches and savoury snacks. Quality ingredients will be locally sourced where possible.  A range drinks including of coffee and specialty loose-leaf Teas are available.
