Heidi creates felted sculptures inspired by nature
Shrewsbury market trader Heidi Butter has turned her love of animals and nature into mini sculptures made from the natural fleece of Shropshire sheep.
Foxes, badgers, sheep, hares, mice and robins have all been lovingly created as intricate needle felted sculptures
Just one of her tiny figures can take up to a week or more to create and they have become something of a collector's item.
Heidi, who runs The Pampered Pineapple stall, in Shrewsbury Market Hall, taught herself the painstaking technique. She began making and selling the sculptures a few months ago and can often be seen busy at work on her stall.
"I've also been asked to lead workshops to teach others how to make them and this is something I'm planning to do in the New Year."
Each figure starts as a small ball of natural Shropshire fleece. The felt is made by stabbing into the fleece with a sharp barbed tool over and over. This knots and hardens the fibres so that they can then be gradually sculpted into form.
