Thanks for supporting us - The Booka Team | FIONA BARTON - THE WIDOW TUESDAY 19TH JANUARY 2016 7.00pm (for 7.30pm start) at Booka Looking for a cracking crime read? - then join us for an evening with Fiona Barton as she talks about The Widow - her new psychological thriller, and one of the most anticipated debut novels of 2016. The Widow is the story of a devoted wife whose husband is accused of a terrible crime. Jean Taylor's life was blissfully ordinary. Nice house, nice husband. Glen was all she'd ever wanted: her Prince Charming. Until he became that man accused, that monster on the front page of every newspaper. Jean was married to a man everyone thought capable of unimaginable evil. But now Glen is dead and she's alone for the first time, free to tell her story on her own terms. Jean Taylor is going to tell us what she knows.... A book with many talking points, drawing comparisons with Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, The Widow is published on 14th January. We are delighted to welcome Fiona to Oswestry to kick off our 2016 programme of events. Tickets: £5 (redeemable against book purchase). Includes a glass of wine / soft drink on arrival. Please book in advance. For tickets, call in at the shop or book online via our Eventbrite page. | NEW! - OSWESTRY LANDMARKS TEA TOWEL We're chuffed to bits with our new Oswestry Landmarks Tea Towel - designed for us by Terri & Tim. Her mum got custody of her, the Mini, and five hundred tins of baked beans. Her dad got a mouldering cottage in a Midlands backwater village and default membership of the Lone Rangers single parents' club. Harper got questionable dress sense, a zest for life, two gerbils, and her Chambers dictionary, and the responsibility of fixing her parents' broken hearts... Set against a backdrop of high hairdos and higher interest rates, pop music and puberty, divorce and death, What a Way to Go is a warm, wise and witty tale of one girl tackling the business of growing up while those around her try not to fall apart. It's a brilliant exploration of the journey from teenager to adult and a wonderful evocation of Britain in the eighties. Tickets: £5 (redeemable against book purchase). Includes a glass of wine / soft drink on arrival. Please book in advance. For tickets, call in at the shop or book online via our Eventbrite page. | | Booka News Christmas Bookmark Competition Winners Congratulations to Kit Fisher (aged 3) and Cameron McNeil (aged 8) for winning our Christmas bookmark competition.
