COMMUNITY SHOP UPDATE - 28th January 2016
Towards the end of last year, a working party was set up by Mary Drinan, Dee Plozsay and Jason Bent to try to ensure the future of our village shop. Following the survey of village residents, a public meeting held at the village school on 20th November.
The findings of the survey were discussed at the public meeting and we heard from a representative from a village in Herefordshire called Wigmore where they have started their own (community) shop. It was agreed that the next step should be to form a committee to look at options to move forward.
Last week a group of us met in Café XI. The main purpose of the meeting was to create the basis of a committee and this was achieved with volunteers for Treasurer, Secretary and Minute Secretary with Mary Drinan as Chairperson along with several non-executive committee members . The group reviewed the current position regarding the shop/post office and agreed some actions for committee members regarding potential business models, funding sources etc.
The committee will hold their second meeting at the end of January.
