The Gallery is always interested in seeing new artworks, and we are pleased to invite all artists - including people who may perhaps not have exhibited in a gallery very much before - to submit their work for consideration. It's the diversity that makes the Gallery so interesting for our visitors, and we love to bring something fresh to the Willow by helping to promote emerging talent. Some exhibitions do have themes that artists may wish to follow; others are entirely open. Please contact the Gallery (willowgalleryoswestry@gmail.com) for further details, guidelines on how to apply and an entry form. Looking for a venue to present your work? Independently of the main exhibition area, the Gallery provides additional wall-hanging space with adjustable lighting for individual artists to exhibit their work. Please contact us for availability and rates. | | | Ruelle Oil on canvas Artist: Karl Robinson-Bray This atmospheric painting, by artist-in-residence Karl, capturing the feeling of strolling through a little French village, is displayed on a traditional-style pinewood easel with turned pegs, one of several made for the Willow by retired airline pilot Tim Aaron. Now as a volunteer at the Gallery, Tim also helps to check in artwork and hang shows. | | | Artist-in-wood Tim also handcrafts elegant goblets, plates and boxes in an array of gorgeous woods, for sale at the Gallery. Admire the texture and colours of his hand-turned wooden fruit - a lovely gift for the person who likes unusual things. | | | Left to right: Yew hollow form with gilding; Decorated ash platter with pierced rim; Pear in laburnum with oil finish; Lidded box with finial in burr oak HELPING OUR BEES | | | Tereska Shepherd would like to thank everyone who has bought fine-art products from her British Bees & Botanical Collection of textiles and cards, making it possible for her to donate £444.67 to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. This most recent donation is specifically supporting their Bee Wild West Wales Project that works with communities to take practical action towards making West Wales a buzzing haven for bumblebees. West Wales is one of the last strongholds of the shrill carder bee, the UK's most threatened bumblebee species. Remaining populations need protection and suitable flower-rich habitats (many of which have been lost). This project will create good-quality habitat and raise awareness of the need to protect and create other areas of habitat as well as gain important survey data on their distribution and that of other rare bees such as the bilberry bumblebee, moss carder bee and brown-banded carder bee. Tereska hopes to make ongoing donations to support a variety of Bumblebee Conservation Trust projects helping to save our bees and other declining wildlife. For further information about the Trust as well as Bee ID guides and educational resources, please visit: www.bumblebeeconservation.org.
