Music Festival looks to 2019 Music of Britain gives way to music of Bohemia Whittington Music Festival trustees at the Sweeney Hall Reception Left to right: Lawrence Mortimer, Rosemary Mortimer, James Barralet (Artistic Director), Mary Rolton, Christine Hughes, Michael Limbrey, Caroline Bradley, Jane Stirling, Robert Greaves (Chairman) | | Sweeney Hall Hotel 'Thank you' Reception looks forward to a programme of Bohemian music in 2019 Last Thursday we enjoyed an evening celebration, the final event of the 2018 season. I hope that you enjoyed the Fantasia on a British Theme concerts and the Sweeney Hall event as much as I did. If you weren't there but would like to be next year, then consider supporting the Festival as a Friend, as a Sponsor or as a volunteer. We took the opportunity that evening to make the £50 prize draw of all those who had returned feedback forms, of which there were well over 100. Frances Major was the lucky winner, and sincere thanks go to all of you who took the trouble to offer feedback. It's enormously helpful, not least in our application to the Arts Council for funding for the 2019 festival. Work has already begun on the bid, and our Artistic Director, James Barralet, promised 'lots of good tunes' for next year's Festival featuring music by Dvorak and other Bohemian composers like Janacek and Smetana. Please note that we have had to change the dates of next year's festival: it will now run from 21st to 26th May, and not as printed in the souvenir programme. I do hope you will put these dates straight into your 2019 calendar! As you know, our finances are such that the 2019 Festival depends on a generous Arts Council grant. Highlighting this at the last concert produced a torrent of support, but there is still a long way to go. I have every hope 2019 will be the exceptional event we anticipate, but rest assured that we have a contingency plan. Jane Stirling, the Friends' Secretary, will be getting in touch in August with all existing members of the Benefactors, Patrons and Friends Scheme as well as those who have indicated that they want to join. Please let Jane know if you'd like her to include you in that mailing. Full details of the benefits of the Scheme, which makes a significant contribution to the festival budget, can be found by clicking here. Finally, we have updated our mailing list to conform with the new privacy laws. If in your case we have made a mistake, please accept our apologies and click unsubscribe below. Once again, thank you for your support and encouragement. Rob Greaves (Chairman) | | | | |
