This is also an opportunity to meet some of our talented artists and find out more about their work.  6 July - 24 August  We are proud to present this vibrant exhibition on the theme of art's engagement with the natural world and increasing environmental issues. The exhibition includes some excellent works by local artists.  July-August 2019  The gallery is delighted to be working alongside Shropshire Wildlife Trust to present, over the course of our nature-themed summer exhibition, a series of talks exploring the threats faced by wildlife from many different kinds of human activity, and the conservation efforts required to save them.  Full festival ticket ú45 or ú8 per evening talk  Debate evening (23 August) : Free entry but you will need a ticket  Friday 5 July, 6.30pm  Festival Opening drinks reception  Friday 5 July, 7.30pm  'WILD BY NATURE'  Paul Evans in conversation with Jim Perrin  Guardian Country Diarist Paul is also a university lecturer and author of a new book, How to See Nature. He lives with his family in Much Wenlock where he was born. Paul will be in conversation with rock-climber, wilderness writer and fellow Country Diarist Jim Perrin whose observations of Snowdonia and talks on the importance of wild places are famed for their insights.  Tuesday 16 July, 7.30pm  'LIFE BEFORE THE LENS'  Iolo Williams  WalesÆ best known nature observer and regular presenter of BBCÆs Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch TV series, Iolo is an outspoken conservationist and powerful campaigner for wildlife. He will be talking about his early days working in the field as a Species Officer for the RSPB and making a name for himself as a leading expert on Welsh bird life.  Saturday 27 July, 7.30pm  'COLD COMFORTS'  Doug Allan  Doug worked for ten years for the British Antarctic Survey before becoming a full-time natural history photographer in 1985 and principal cameraman on many BBC wildlife programmes. David AttenboroughÆs favourite Arctic cameraman, Doug is famous for his films of polar bears, seals and close encounters with a walrus.  Friday 2 August, 7.30pm  'IN THE WILD WOOD'  Keith Offord  Tucked away on the Welsh borders not far from Oswestry, an ancient 13-acre wood once sheltered a hermit - and here today massive stands of beech, oak, ash and cherry provide the perfect habitat for a wide variety of species. Ornithologist Keith Offord, who travels the world leading wildlife tours and monitoring birds of prey, tells the inspiring story of this secret place.  Friday 9 August, 7.30pm  'URBAN BUZZ'  Penny Metal and Alison Benjamin  Penny spent five years observing a small patch in South London and identified a remarkable 555 species of bugs, bees, beetles and other insects. She will talk with journalist and author Alison Benjamin whose bee books are helping to highlight the threats bees face worldwide and to transform the way we think about these master pollinators.  Friday 16 August, 7.30pm  'BUTTERFLY WORLD'  Patrick Barkham  Journalist and nature writer, Patrick spent a year trying to spot all 59 species of butterfly that are known to breed in the British Isles. Out of it came his extraordinary book, The Butterfly Isles, detailing the lives of these insects in all their diversity and beauty. Patrick also looks ahead to a future in which many of our butterflies will struggle to find resources to survive.  Friday 23 August, 7.3pm  æWHICH WAY NATURE?Æ  To round off OswestryÆs first Festival of Nature, Guardian Environment Editor Damian Carrington will moderate a debate about the steep decline of the natural world and what we as individuals can do to help reverse it. We particularly welcome young local people to come along and take part. Thursday 25 July  El Deseo Quartett  >From Toulouse a quartet composed of Marie-Emilie Gauffre (flute/vocals), HÚlÞne Colin (flute/vocals), Fabien Vinues (flute/vocals) and Bertrand Gibert (guitar), their compositions inspired by jazz and world music.  Time: 8pm  Tickets: ú10 (children ú5)  Saturday 14 September  Paulus Schõfer Trio  Dutch Sinti (gypsy) guitarist Paulus Schõfer together with Chris Quin (rhythm guitar) and Tom Moore (double bass) perform a swinging form of jazz that finds its origin in the style of the great Django Reinhardt. The competition will be judged on 3 July. Oswestry also represented the region in the 2018 National Britain in Bloom, scooping a very strong Silver Gilt.    The town's own Oswestry in Bloom competition will be judged on the 15 and 16 July by Miss Margaret Thrower. Says Ed: 'Each piece is influenced by my love of watercolour painting and the great British watercolour tradition exemplified by Turner, Cotman and Constable. Many are inspired by local landscapes, in particular the Stiperstones and the Wrekin; also the estuary at Aberdovey.'    On a larger scale, versatile Ed also handcrafts stoneware ceramic planters in various styles and sizes, to use both outdoors or in a porch or conservatory. All are frostproof and just as sturdy as they are chic. A former car showroom, the gallery was founded by local craftsman Peter Vidal and opened in 2012 to promote contemporary art. A not-for-profit community interest company, the gallery supports established and emerging artists (particularly local talent) working across many disciplines. As well as regularly-changing exhibitions, we run artist-led workshops and courses, and host a programme of events, including live music, craft fairs, special exhibits, craft demonstrations and talks. Our artists-in-residence enjoy engaging with the public and are keen to share their knowledge and passion.
