Helping to keep you informed of the latest coronavirus news in Shropshire. | | Two Omicron cases have been confirmed in Shropshire Two cases of Omicron have now been confirmed in Shropshire. We are working closely with the UK Health Security Agency to ensure all appropriate actions are taken. Both cases and their close contacts are self-isolating as per the Government guidance. Weekly figures: 26 November - 2 December Please note: Since the publication of these figures, two Omicron cases have been confirmed in Shropshire. In the week of 26 November – 2 December, there were 1,698 new cases reported. Shropshire's infection rate remains high than the national and regional averages. We still have the second highest rates in the West Midlands, just behind Telford & Wrekin. Sadly there were a further 7 deaths reported and 46 people were receiving treatment for COVID-19 in our local hospitals. People should work from home where practical The Prime Minister has announced a move to 'Plan B'. This will help to slow the spread of Omicron and reduce the pressure on the NHS, while also allowing time to deliver more boosters. The new plan includes: - Mandatory face coverings in most indoor settings (not including hospitality)
- Introducing mandatory NHS pass certification for large events (10k+ seated; 4k+ outdoor unstructured; 500+ indoor unstructured)
- Those who can work from home should do so where practical
- A potential new system of daily contact testing
