Several people contacted me about finding a good local taxi.
I went to work on this request and phoned 7 taxi companies `Local to Ruyton` according to Google!
Some did not answer a phone call, others had an answerphone which they did not answer - anyway, most were based in Shrewsbury
One called back from Wem and quoted £40 from Ruyton to Shrewsbury and £45 from Ruyton to Oswestry (both towns are 9 miles from Ruyton)
Best of all was a chap who was listed in Leaton. He has retired but gave me quite a lot of information
a. He did not get enough bookings to make the business viable
b. The figures quoted by the chap from Wem is par for the course as the cost of insurance is about £8,000 plus a licence.
c. Most of the small small taxi companies have been bought up by VEEZU, previously GoCars.
d. Vizzu are not considered the most reliable
Nothing daunted, I looked elswhere:-
QUBE COMMUNITY TRANSPORT DIAL A RIDE
Oswestry Community Action run six fully accessible mini-buses and six community cars. We work in the voluntary sector providing community transport for the disabled, the sick, the elderly and the rurally isolated. Anyone with a genuine transport need who does not have access to public transport can join our transport scheme and use our service.
We have 30 volunteer drivers and passenger escorts who give up their time to help run this service. All our volunteer drivers are fully trained to the MiDAS standard and are CRB checked.
I happen to know a Ruyton driver for Dial a Ride & was given contact details for the chap who runs this service.
It seems that you pay a joining fee and must book the ride 24 hours in advance. They are mostly used for shopping trips or the Orthopaedic..
Volunteer cars
This is a service where volunteer drivers can take people much further, such as hospitals in Wrexham, Shrewsbury & Telford.
THE SNAG
Dial a Ride is desperate for more volunteer drivers for the Dial a Ride Mini bus and the Volunteer Cars - at the moment one Ruyton lady uses service regularly but a second lady is not able to, due to lack of drivers.
