What's On this Autumn / Winter at The Holroyd Community Theatre

We are delighted to share with you our programme of events for this Autumn/Winter. With a mix of celebrity household names, amateur dramatics, music nights, cinema and opera - all open to the public with several private events along the way -  proving to be a jam packed season.

More recently we are thrilled to be hosting National Theatre cinema screenings allowing you, our community, to watch big London productions on your doorstep. Our next screening is Prima Facie, October 4th. 

Along with our main programme we continue to host our weekly events including our popular Face2Face Performing Arts Academy, Buggy Walks and Baby Massage.

An Evening with Coleen Nolan | Wednesday 04 September | 7.30pm

Coleen Nolan - singer, TV host, and agony aunt known for her warmth, straight-talking and compassion joins us to discuss her new book 'A Hand to Hold', - taking readers on a heartfelt journey through how to cope with grief - formed by her own deeply-felt experiences of loss and grief. 

An Evening with Janette Manrara | Wednesday 11 September | 7.30pm

Calling all Strictly fans! Strictly star and 'It Takes Two' host, Janette Manrara, joins us to talk about her new book 'Tiny Dancer, Big World'.  Whether you are looking to boost your happiness, advance your career or manifest your big life goals, her book of advice, inspiration and life lessons from her time on stage and screen is just what you need.  

An Evening with Kate Atkinson | Monday 16 September | 7.30pm

Join us for an evening with bestselling author Kate Atkinson as she returns with a brand new Jackson Brodie novel, 'Death at the Sign of the Rook'. The stage is set. Marooned overnight by a snowstorm in a grand country house are a cast of characters and a setting that even Agatha Christie might recognise – a vicar, an Army major, a Dowager, a sleuth and his sidekick.
 

Dual | Saturday 28 September | 7.30pm

Ana GarcĂ­a Flamenco and Flamenco Nights have united to present two of the best flamenco artists of our time for an exclusive performance.

World renowned flamenco masters Mercedes Ruiz and Santiago Lara combine their exceptional talents and shared vision of flamenco in "Dual". This intimate production brilliantly expresses the artists' unity and partnership in both life and art.


An Evening With Amy Jeffs | Monday 30 September | 7.30pm

Join us for an evening with Amy Jeffs, the Sunday Times bestselling author of 'Storyland' and 'Wild' as she talks about her new book 'Saints', delving deep into the history of Britain's past through the tales that captured the medieval imagination.
 

NT Live 'Prima Facie' | Friday 04 October | 7.30pm

Jodie Comer's (Killing Eve) Olivier and Tony Award-winning performance in Suzie Miller's gripping one-woman play returns to the screen.

Tessa is a young, brilliant barrister. She has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game; defending; cross examining and winning. An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge.

 

Porthywaen Silver Band's 90th Anniversary | Saturday 05 October | 7.00pm

Porthywaen Silver Band celebrates its 90th Anniversary this year. The band is proudly presenting a celebratory concert to mark the occasion, providing musical delights for you all to enjoy.  A free event, please reserve your seat. 
 

Autumn Wreath Making | Monday 07 October | 6.30pm

Katie from Peony & Tonic will be joining us for an oversized luxury fresh wreath workshop, in autumnal burnt orange colours, ready to hang and guaranteed to last until Christmas.

Glass of wine and slice of cake on arrival.


BOSStria - The Austrian Springsteen Tribute Show | Saturday 02 November | 7.30pm

BOSStria – The Austrian Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band Tribute Show, recently acclaimed as "Probably the best Springsteen tribute in the world" by the European press, is hitting the road once again. 7-piece BOSStria handpicks iconic live versions from Springsteen concerts spanning over 50 years, faithfully recreating these performances with meticulous attention to detail and capturing the raw emotion and gritty authenticity that define Springsteen's music and live shows.


Pagliacci | Saturday 12 November | 7.30pm

Performed by Mid Wales Opera, thriller 'Pagliacci', or 'Clowns', sees the leader of a touring troupe of comedy actors, discovering his wife is having an affair with another performer. Before he finds out who it is, he must go on stage in the role of a despairing husband with a cheating wife. Culminating in a terrifying blurring of reality between stage and real-life witnessed by a terrified audience and packed with sensational music.


Christmas Garland Making | Tuesday 26 November | 6.30pm

Katie from Peony & Tonic will be joining us again for a Christmas workshop. This time we will be creating a festive Christmas garland for your fireplace or table. Using beautiful fresh ingredients you will create something perfect for Christmas.

Made In Dagenham, The Musical | Tuesday 03 - Thursday 05 December | 7.00pm

Transport back to 1968.  A man's world. But not for long...

Join Moreton Hall's Senior School cast as they take on the fight for equal pay and achieve something extraordinary. Inspired by a true story, and based on the hit film, this powerhouse musical comedy is enduringly funny, touching and timeless.  Exploring love, friendship and the importance of fighting for what's right.

A Bunch of Amateurs | Saturday 07 December | 7.30pm

Keen to boost his flagging career, fading Hollywood action hero Jefferson Steele arrives in England to play King Lear in Stratford – only to find it isn't the birthplace of the Bard but a sleepy Suffolk village. Instead of Kenneth Branagh and Judi Dench, the cast are a bunch of amateurs trying to save their theatre from developers. Jefferson's monsterous ego, vanity and insecurity are tested to the limit by the enthusiastic am-dram thespians. As acting worlds collide Jefferson discovers some truths about himself – along with his inner Lear!

James Lee Humphreys - The Voice From The Valley | Sunday 08 December | 7.30pm

International vocal powerhouse brings you passion, drama and beautiful aria accompanied by the finest live musicians. James instantly has audiences captivated with the strength of his voice and fun-loving cheeky humour. With a wealth of experience under his belt, James has worked internationally across the globe featuring in many operas, cabaret and onboard luxury cruise liners.

Buggy Walk | Every Wednesday (term time only) | 10.00am

Whether you have a buggy, a baby in a carrier or even a bump - why not join us for a gentle and scenic buggy-friendly walk? Afterwards grab a hot drink, cake and a chance to chat to the other parents whilst the children enjoy some play time. 

Baby Massage | Every Friday (term time only) | 10.00am

Join us for a four week course of baby massage by Heather Smallbone from Tippy Toes Reflexology, a fully qualified Reflexologist and Massage Therapist since 2010. 

Face2Face | Every Wednesday (term time) | 5.30pm - 8.00pm

Face2Face Performing Arts Academy enriches, develops and promotes the love of creativity and expression to young performers between the ages of 9 and 18. Expert teaching in dancing, singing and acting is delivered weekly whilst building individual confidence and having fun!

Volunteer

Volunteers are vital members of The Holroyd Community Theatre team who share our love of theatre, performance and the arts and generously give their time to support our front of house and serve our customers.

As the face of the theatre, we rely on volunteers to provide outstanding customer service and to put the community at the heart of everything we do. What's more, volunteers have the opportunity to see all our productions, and meet and socialise with lots of like-minded people! We ask that volunteers attend at least once every two weeks.

As a cultural flagship for North Shropshire and the Welsh Borders, The Holroyd Community Theatre aims to be a vibrant community space for everyone, presenting quality affordable live theatre, together with events and opportunities to be involved in the arts. The theatre aims to provide a platform for our whole community to engage with the arts; developing a sense of togetherness through social occasions, participation and utilisation of the spaces available.
