Poignant big-screen drama | | In our town park, the statue of Wilfred Owen, the young Oswestry WW1 soldier/anti-war poet, is a constant reminder of the futility of war - a topic still so relevant in the world today a century on from his death. Oswestry is currently staging the Wilfred Owen Festival to commemorate its famous son, and as part of that the Oswestry Film Society is proud to be screening this Wednesday night JOURNEY'S END. Set in a dugout on the Western Front in April 1918, it is the emotionally-charged story of a group of British officers, led by a mentally-disintegrating young captain, as – with a massive German attack imminent - they await their fate. This powerful, passionate and superbly acted film highlights the futility and slaughter of the First World War, and should not to be missed on the big screen. Before the showing, there'll be a short talk abut Owen himself with the man behind the Wilfred Owen Festival - Chris Woods.
