SHREWSBURY MARKET HALL
CELEBRATES THE ANNUAL `BIG DRAW`
The Looking Good Naked exhibition, a collection of life-drawings from the Shrewsbury Life Drawing Group, was launched earlier this month to mark the annual Big Draw. The Exhibition can be seen in the Visual Arts Gallery (VAN) in the Market Hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.
There will be a host of drawing activities taking place at the VAN gallery throughout October, as well as at the Birds Nest Café and Compost Kids, including a variety of workshops for VAN members.
The theme for this year is based on the artist Paul Klee and his notion that drawing is ‘taking a line for a walk.’ Based on this theme there will be a drawing line around the Market Hall that participants are able to attach their drawings to. Everyone who attaches a drawing to the line will be entered into a prize draw to win art equipment donated by PaperWrite, which has also provided drawing materials.
People are also invited to help create a special drawing at Beyond the Purple Door on November 2 to celebrate the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday which celebrates lost loved ones.
Participants can draw on a chalk wall to create a giant piece of art from 10am until 4pm.
Sara Mai, one of the Big Draw organisers said: “The Big Draw is the world’s biggest celebration of drawing and throughout October everyone is invited to come to Shrewsbury Market Hall to get drawing and release their inner creativity. Drawing helps us to see, think, invent and take action.”
Anyone wanting to join the Shrewsbury Life Drawing Group can attend workshops at English Bridge on Mondays, from 2-4pm and at The Hive on Tuesdays, from 7-9pm.
