Superfast Broadband coming to Baschurch

A message sent by Colin Case.

I received the following up-date from Openreach last week:-

"We have had engineers building the network in Baschurch for the last three weeks, we also have the final areas being planned"

I have seen several Openreach vans busy on the "Moor Farm Straight" (Baschurch Straight) between Ruyton and Baschurch - even working on Sunday. Vans have been busy on the road to Weston Lullingfields as well, and I notice that the "coiled-up" fibre bundles that were near the top of several telegraph poles in the area have now been terminated near the top ready for the last few metres to each property to be connected.
So it is getting nearer every day - can't be long before orders can be placed.

I should emphasise that the system being installed in Baschurch is FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) This means that a fibre optic cable will be connected to each property - eliminating ALL copper from the broadband connection. This will make Baschurch one of the best-connected Villages in Britain - there is no faster connection system. It will offer up to 100mbps immediately with potential to increase to over 300mbps in the near future as technology improves. So this is even faster than the FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) solution that has been installed in Ruyton XI Towns. So although it is later than expected, I hope you all agree it is worth waiting for.

Part of the prize for winning the Race to Infinity is a superfast connection to a Public Building for a year. We already have a superfast connection to our Victoria Room (thank heavens - the Broadplace children can all be on-line to Roblox without slowing down the connection now) It is perhaps the right time to be thinking which Public Building in Baschurch might be appropriate for free Broadband for a year. I will take this up with Baschurch Parish Council in the May meeting, but if anyone has a suggestion just drop me an email. You will recall that the Baschurch Tennis Club has already been given some Video Equipment as part of the prize.

You will have read in local newspapers (and various other literature) that Shropshire Council has won funding for Broadband throughout Shropshire - excellent news. But this is nothing to do with our Race to Infinity Project - we are at least three years ahead of the County Scheme, and the proposed solution is FTTC - so still nowhere near as fast as Baschurch even when it is finished.

Interestingly, there is increasing evidence that a modern, fast connection has a beneficial impact on property values - another big PLUS for the Race to Infinity winners - so thanks for voting back in Christmas 2010.
