A recent stand at Ludlow Community Hospital

Welcome
This our latest to the NHS Future Fit newsletter which gives you the latest information on the programme and opportunities to get involved.

Over the next few months the team will continue to be out and about, talking and listening to different communities about the proposed new local healthcare system.

The latest
NHS Future Fit programme board sat on 18 February, more information is available below.

Plans are underway to develop the area's Sustainability and Transformation Plan as set out by Government. NHS Future Fit has already laid the foundation for some of this work and more information is available further on in this bulletin.

The Communications and Engagement team have been out and about across the region with pop up events in all the community hospitals, local shopping centres and in locations in mid-Wales. They have also been talking to typically 'hard to reach groups', getting feedback from local homeless people and users of substance misuse services. More information on future pop up events are listed towards the end of this bulletin.

An update on Programme Board
During February's Programme Board'  NHS Future Fit Programme Director, Debbie Vogler was formally introduced. Debbie has provided continuity for the programme having been involved from the outset in her role as Director of Business and Enterprise at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. The board were reassured that the timeline set out at the previous meeting was still on schedule.

Programme Timeline
In November 2015, we set out a new ambition to have identified a preferred option for acute services during Summer 2016, to move towards formal Public Consultation from end 2016 and to reach a final decision in Summer 2017. Progress continues to be made in line with this timeline which is set out in more detail below:

Now until June 2016
Public engagement pre preferred option
June 2016 - November 2016
Public engagement on preferred option
December 2016 - March 2017
Formal consultation on preferred option
March 2017 - May 2017
Preparation of consultation outcome report
June 2017
Commissioners make final decision

Five year forward plan
All English health economies must produce a Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP). The STP will be the way in which local partners create a shared and ambitious plan of the Forward View. STPs will cover the period between October 2016 and March 2021, and will be subject to formal assessment in July 2016 following submission in June 2016.

We have agreed locally that the 'transformation footprint' should be the area covered by our two CCGs and a Partnership Board has been formed involving all NHS organisations providing services in the area as well as both Local Authorities.

More information will be available on this plan in future weeks.

New blog on travel times
The proposals behind NHS Future Fit were developed by local clinicians and based on a range of evidence, including important information about the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Powys area. One clinical proposal is that there should be a network of urgent care centres supported by a single Emergency Centre.

Local clinicians agreed that a single emergency centre would improve safety and quality of care and focus resources to improve teamwork. At the same time it is recognised that, for some people, this may mean an increase in travel times in order to access the best care. These issues are explored in a new blog post which represents the views of three of the leading clinicians involved in the NHS Future Fit programme.
