Happy Easter from the Willow Team, thank you all who came along and made the last Music Night with Mabon so successful and enjoyable; our next Live Music Event is our Vintage Night with The FB POCKET ORCHESTRA on Saturday 2nd April at 8pm. Tickets are £10 (children £5)
 
The FB Pocket Orchestra takes its listeners back to the hot jazz, blues, ragtime and popular dances of the 1920/30s and earlier, presenting a contemporary slant on popular acoustic music from that time. This will be a highly entertaining evening featuring some excellent singing and musicianship. Vintage dress optional, search your wardrobes for Feather Boas and Spats!

Live Music Evenings with Willow Eatery

Willow Eatery has a licensed bar and has a selection of wines (red, white, rose and prosecco), bottled cider and beers, and spirits available with mixers or as liqueur coffees available throughout the evening. We will have some cocktails on offer for the event too; see the menu at the counter on the night.

In addition, those who wish to eat before the performance can book a table with Willow Eatery:    
    Tables available between 6.30pm -7.00pm with band to start at 8.00pm. Seating for viewing bands are located in the gallery – seats may be reserved by yourself when you arrive for your evening meal if you wish. Table bookings essential and pre-orders taken to ensure your choice. Please email willoweatery@gmail.com to make your reservation and pre-order.

Featuring a variety of Art and Crafts stalls from local makers. An enjoyable day for both stall holders and visitors, please contact the Gallery if you would like to book a stall

Upcoming Workshops

Up cycling Textile with Carol Grivell
Wednesday April 6th, 10.00am to 4.30pm    £40
Carol will also be running a one day course on April 6th that will see you design and make a shoulder bag from recycled textiles and accessories.  There are just 9 places available on this course.  You will need to bring along some recycled materials – Carol will however provide all the machinery.

Interpret the Landscape with David Bannister
Thursday 7th April / 14th April / 21st April / 28th April, 10am to 1pm    £75
Demonstrations of techniques using acrylic paints and mediums. 
Quick look at how artists past and present have interpreted landscape. 
Students to bring their own sketches, photos or other reference material to work from. Students to bring own acrylic paints and brushes. Students will aim to complete a landscape painting in acrylic paint on canvas or board by the end of the 4 day workshops. Canvasses and boards will be provided.

Portraiture in Oils – a weekend course with Darren Fraser
Saturday April 9th & Sunday 10th April, 10am to 4pm, Two day workshop for £60
Build your confidence by approaching the subject of Portraiture on a larger scale.  Darren's large, bold and colourful portraits have often been on display at the Willow and his works sells around the world.  Please bring along a good quality image that you will be working from.  Look for an image which has an interesting angle, colour, contrast and please print these at a good quality. Students will need to bring paints and brushes 

Art of Creative Journaling with Jill Carter
Saturday 16 April, 10.00am to 4.00 pm    £55
Enjoy exploring the space between the pages of your own unique journal, unearthing the imaginative and creative, serious and quirky!  Be inspired to discover diverse ways to use mixed media to create layered tactile pages, documenting memories, stories, dialogue, ideas and experiences. 
Jill will bring along some of her rich archive of journals, memory and photo books to inspire exchange and conversation. The aim will be to share ideas, processes and materials and experiment with subject areas, composition and visual narratives, bringing together, for example, drawings, photographs, writing and text, found and made objects, textiles and sewing, assemblage, collage, storytelling and reportage.

Coastal Scenes – an experimental workshop in acrylics and mixed media with Penny Price
Wednesday 20th April, 10am to 4pm    £38
For painters who wish to take their work in a different direction.
We will look at creating different textural effects combining the use of an assortment of materials including tissue, handmade papers, newspaper print, sand and paste with acrylic paint.
Subject matter will include coastal scenes from your own sketches and photographs.
Some experience with acrylic painting is desirable – but not essential.

Feltmaking Waterfall Landscapes with Susan Mulcock
Saturday 23rd April, 10am to 4pm    £45
Willow regular and an artist whose work is often on display in the gallery will be running a felting workshop with a focus on waterfalls.  Experimenting with various fibres and inlays Sue will guide you in creating the basis of a waterfall scene in felt. Sue will provide all the materials.

Machine Embroidered Fabric Landscapes with Jenny O'Leary
Saturday 30th April 10am to 4pm    £40
Create a real or imaginary landscape using fabric scraps, threads, yarn etc, then further embellish it with machine embroidery. Bring along images for inspiration also fabric scraps etc. that you may like to incorporate in to your work. Jenny will also have fabrics for you to use. Bring your own sewing machine if possible; contact the gallery if you will need to borrow one. You will also need to bring your own small sharp scissors.
 
Introduction to Wood Engraving with Judy Macklin
Friday 6th May to Sunday 8th May, 10am to 4pm each day    £160 (£140 concessions)
This 3 day course aims to develop competency in the handling and cutting of wood and plastic polymer blocks for engraving as well as providing an historical and contemporary context for practice. 
 
Seas & Skies in Watercolour with Tereska Shepherd
Mondays: 9th May / 23rd May / 6th June * 20th June, 10am to 3.30pm
£100 (£80 concessions)
Discover the inspiring world of skies and water through this exciting, practical painting course. This course is Ideal for those who wish to explore a wide range of watercolour painting and mixed media techniques whilst further developing their artistic skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. The Emphasis of the course will be on enhancing watercolour skills and developing techniques for best capturing the colours, light and atmosphere of sky and seascapes including a variety of lighting and weather conditions, boats and shorelines.
 
Drawing Bodies with David Bannister
Wednesday 11th May / 18th May & 25th May 10.15am to 1.15pm    £75
A brief study of human anatomy and form. Looking at body structures and articulation.
Drawing from a nude model to build upon the understanding and knowledge gained in studying human anatomy. To study the human form in various dynamic and static poses.
Drawing from a clothed life model. Studying the clothed body to aid the understanding and depiction of the human form beneath.
 
Linocut Workshop with Ian Phillips
Saturday 14th May, 10am to 4.30pm    £55
A fantastic opportunity to explore a variety of Lino cut techniques and hand burnishing printing with this professional and experienced printmaker. Minimum age: 18
All materials included. Over 18s only.
What to bring – Apron, sketch paper, pencil, biro and some pictures / drawings / photos you would like to produce as a linocut. As simple and as bold as possible. Drawing/ photograph should be 14cm x 23cm either portrait or landscape.
