Walk for the Derwen College 9th Birthday

Message from Tonia Davies at the Derwen College.

TIME TO GET YOUR WALKING BOOTS ON FOR THE annual DERWEN WALK

The popular Derwen College Sponsored Walk is taking place this year on Sunday 2nd April – with a new route and start time.  This year the walk will start and finish at the college in Gobowen, Oswestry with registration starting from 1pm and the walk will get underway at 1.30pm. The 10k route includes a 6k option as well as a 1k Woodland Walk on-site option.

All fundraising from the walk be going towards the 2017 fundraising target of £50,000 which is needed to replace the heating system in the swimming pool at the college. This is a vital facility at the college with students using the pool for sport, recreation, hydro and physio therapies as well as training for Duke of Edinburgh's Awards and is used seven days a week.

"We are very excited to be launching the 2017 walk and look forward to seeing some familiar faces on the walk as well as new ones joining us for the first time. This is just one of many events taking place this year to celebrate our 90th birthday and we look forward to sharing our story over the year" said Louise Keevil, Director Corporate and Charity services. "It's a great event with students taking part, activities on site for all ages and a lovely opportunity for friends and families to get together and walk for charity".

Further information and sponsor forms can be requested from bookings@derwen.ac.uk or visit www.derwen.ac.uk/events.

There will be tea and cake at the finish for all participants. The Garden Café will be open from 10am and is offering a Sponsored Walk Lunch Special as well as a selection of refreshments on the daily menu.

Derwen College is a residential college for students aged from 16 – 25 with learning disabilities and difficulties. The college has on site  a garden centre, café, restaurant, farm shop, walled garden and woodland walk all open to the public seven days a week providing real-life work experience opportunities for students.
