Saturday 18 January A Demonstration of Batik with Jenny O'Leary 11am-1pm Free event | | Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to fabric, reaching its greatest development in Indonesia. Hot liquid wax is used to prevent dye from penetrating the cloth, leaving 'blank' areas that can then be filled with colours; batik on paper uses the same techniques and tools. Textile artist Jenny will be demonstrating trees in batik to link with her course in March (see below). | | | Examples of Jenny's craft While Jenny's particular specialism is batik on tissue paper as well as fabric , she also does wonderful things with machine embroidery, felting and appliquÚ - creating wall art, soft furnishings, bags, scarves and jewellery, all with a modern twist.
