RUYTON XI TOWNS PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER UPDATE

Resignation of Councillor Shearan and notice of casual vacancy Councillor David Shearan sadly decided to step down from the Parish Council earlier this month. This means there is now a 'casual vacancy' in the Parish Council. We have notified Shropshire Council and you can view or download the Notice of casual vacancy here*. D SHEARAN CASUAL VACANCY Local electors have until 29.03.2022 to request a by-election As per legislation, local electors have the opportunity to request a by-election to fill the vacant seat on the Council (see Notice of vacancy above for more detail). If during that time, 10 electors have submitted a request to Shropshire Council for an election, then an election will be called. If during that period no election is requested, then the PC has the right to co-opt someone to fill the vacancy. We will update the PC website and notice boards with further info once we know what the next steps are. *Please note, the casual vacancy notice was published online on Shropshire Council's website, on the Councillors webpage and on notice boards around the parish on 9th March, but due to unforeseen circumstances we have been unable to publish a dedicated webpost about the casual vacancy until more recently. A huge thank you to Cllr David Shearan To say that David Shearan was an active member of the council would be a serious understatement. Since joining in early 2019 David designed and built a new Council website, and throughout his time as councillor has been extremely generous in sharing his considerable knowledge and time to help councillors (and the clerk) with all things website, email, and IT-related. Aside from his valuable IT expertise, David also spearheaded the Climate Emergency Working Group, and was behind the creation of the wildflower meadow and tree planting on both the Bridge Inn/Queen Elizabeth II Field and in the Spinney, as part of the Council's efforts to address the Climate Emergency. He also set up another Working Group to engage with the community and research possible improvements and funding opportunities for making the Doctors Meadow playing field more usable and accessible. He has also been heavily involved in the Cliffe Crew and the project to get the Cliffe designated as a Local Nature Reserve. He also demonstrated his diplomacy skills whilst leading a Working Group during lockdown to look at how to resolve conflict between different user groups on the Cliffe. He has also been an active member of the local Safer Roads Group, and he also organised upgrading the village VAS signs with solar panels. David's contribution to local government (and the wider community) has been nothing short of phenomenal and the Parish Council would like to express its utmost thanks for all his hard work and dedication to making life better for everyone in the community, and we wish him all the very best for the future.
