There will be sandcastles galore on the final weekend in May when Festival Square is filled with sand, deckchairs and buckets and spades and it's free! | | Get ready to ride on our historic trains - Oswestry is a great base to take to the rails. There are three unique heritage railways near here. | | Cambrian Heritage Railways start from right in the centre of town and take you on a delightful little ride to our very own Stonehouse Brewery and Henstone Distillery at Weston Wharf. Don't miss their Fish and Chip trains or June's Beer Festival. Welshpool and Llanfair Railway steams through stunning Mid Wales countryside from Llanfair Caerinion to Welshpool. They have a Carrot Express running through Easter or how about a more grown up trip with a Whisky and Gin Tasting train? Llangollen Railway completes the trio - steaming from the centre of Llangollen through the Dee Valley, this is another beautiful way to see more of the borderlands. | | | To see all Welshpool and Llanfair Railway events - click here. | | To see all Cambrian Heritage Railway events - click here. | | It's surprising how much there is to see and do in Oswestry - where Shropshire meets Wales See the bluebells on Old Oswestry Hillfort | Visit three borderland castles | Come to the Antiques and Collectors fair | Discover more about Oswestry on a free guided tour. | | Spring in Oswestry is beautiful, don't miss the wild garlic, bluebells and ducklings galore. Take a walk through the parklands at Chirk Castle as the trees spring back to life and lambs enjoy the spring sunshine. On to Powis then, this stately sandstone castle has world renowned gardens bursting into life in April and May. Looking for a bargain?
