Ruyton XI Towns War Memorial

Many thanks to the Parish Council for getting some black and white
`danger` posts erected on each side of Ruyton XI Towns War Memorial -
not a particularly pretty sight but if it stops those flipping wagons
scraping the stonework that has to be good.

Did you know that our War Memorial is absolutely unique, there isn`t
another one in the country where you can actually walk inside although
there are some which are carved onto a cliff face.

Many hundreds of War Memorials are carved out of Portland Stone,
including the Cenotaph, and have been professionally designed and carved
but ours is unusual having been carved by the village stone mason and
his son.

You can read more about our War Memorial in a super new book on
Shropshire Memorials, `Sites of Remembrance` by Peter Francis.
