SHREWSBURY LEADS DELEGATION TO THE CAPITAL
Shrewsbury Town Council was today [TUES] part of an important delegation, organised by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), heading to the Capital to discuss the potential impact of the 2014/14 Local Government Finance Settlement.
The delegation, including Shrewsbury Town Clerk, Helen Ball, will meet Brandon Lewis MP, Local Government Minister, at the Department for Communities & Local Government to advise on the impact of his 2014/15 Local Government Finance Settlement on the Town Council, and its ability to serve the residents of Shrewsbury.
The group will lobby for a consistent and fair approach in determining financial arrangements for town and parish councils, particularly when many are taking on an enhanced role in the current economic climate.
Councillor Alan Mosley, Leader of the Council, said: “It is not often that individual Town Councils are given the opportunity to lobby government ministers directly on matters that affect them. This is an accolade for Helen Ball, our Town Clerk and to the Council and all staff. We have clearly developed a national reputation for the quality of our work and we are delighted that we can give a flavour of what happens at the very local level. We are facing challenges but moving forward with carefully planned and efficient improvements in services for Shrewsbury.”
