Spring Open Exhibition
Tuesday 22nd April – Saturday 24th May
An open show featuring a wide range of subject matter expressed through painting, mixed me
media, photography, textile, printmaking and sculpture.

Featuring: David Bannister - A Glance Back
Tuesday 22nd April – Saturday 24th May
David studied illustration and design at Camberwell School of Art in London and qualified in 1989. In 1999 he moved to Mid Wales after having lived and worked for several years in London and Tokyo. Having a love of travel and the experience, places and people, the landscape and coast of Wales has held David’s attention since moving here and is a backdrop to exploring spiritual and contemporary themes. The work exhibited here is a retrospective. This work on show has been chosen to illustrate David’s creative journey and the subjects and themes that have inspired him over time.
“I am hoping that this look back over a more creative period of my life might foster new beginnings and inspire me to travel still further along the spiritual and creative path.” – David Bannister

To accompany his exhibition David Bannister will be running a series of Drawing workshops –‘Inspired to Draw,’ from 10am -12pm on Saturday’s throughout May. Please find further details below.

Feature Walls for May
On our feature walls this month we have landscape collage by Lyn Evans, fantasy illustration by Emma Louise Walton. Contemporary works by Judith Harrison, Alison Holt, Allanah Piesse, Gill Crozier and Elizabeth Hancock are covering collagraph, mixed media, painting and embroidery.  Tereska Shepherd will also be exhibiting framed limited edition prints from her Bumblebee watercolours, recently exhibited at the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. These works feature images of rare and endangered Bumblebees and are aimed at raising awareness of the plight of the Bee’s and what we can all do to help conserve these important and fascinating creatures.

Inspired to Draw – Drawing Sessions with David Bannister
Saturday 3rd of May, 10th May, 17th May & 24th May. 10am to 12pm
Explore a variety of drawing techniques and tools through your chosen subject matter. Through the art of drawing and seeing students will develop a wide range of drawing techniques and an understanding of their perception of the world around them.
Session 1: Tools of the Trade & Mark Making. Session 2: Techniques, Practice and Mastery. Session 3: Creating Space – line & Tone/ Light & Shade. Session 4: Putting it all together.
£50 for 4 sessions

Cloisonné with a Twist Enamelling Workshop
Saturday 10th May
10am – 4pm

Discover how to use this fascinating and historic technique to create your own unique enamel artwork.  Professional enameller, Pat Thatcher, will take you through each step from making Cloisonné by fusing copper wire to backgrounds with wet enamel giving decoration, colour and textured effects.This session will also incorporate a wide range of enamelling techniques including sifting stencilling and stamping.

Acoustic Blues Guitar Workshop with Chris Quinn

Felt Flower Making Workshop with Susan Mulcock
Saturday 31st May. 11am to 3pm

Experiment with a variety of felt making techniques and different wool types to create your own unique selection of felt flowers for corsages, bags, hair, hat and general decorations. Have fun with felt with professional felt maker Sue Mulcock.
£25 including all materials. Please book in advance due to limited places.

Exploring the Language of Drawing – Life Drawing with Darren Fraser
Starting Tuesday 29th
 April. 6.30pm to 8.30pm

4 Sessions: 3rd June, 10th June, 17th June, 24th June
Throughout the course the human form will be explored through the exciting language of drawing. This guided course will give you the confidence and skills to develop your abilities to the next level. Professional artist Darren Fraser brings his enthusiasm and skills to this course where a variety of approaches and techniques will be developed including working from a life model. This taught course is open to all levels.
£40 for 4 sessions. Please bring your preferred drawing materials. You may also wish to bring your own easel.

Tai Chi  – with Alan Jeffries.  
Starting Sunday 11th
 May. 10.30am to 12pm.

Cultivate Strength & Flexibility in Body & Mind. Improve co-ordination, posture, balance awareness and focus. Chen 15 Form. Learn the 15 movements of this Chen Form in a block of 6 weekly sessions. Suitable for beginners or the more advanced student.

All acoustic musicians welcome for an informal gathering to share ideas, perform and jam.

Live music from the Devil’s Chair Ceilidh Band and tuition from professional caller Hilary Evans

The band is formed by experienced musicians’ and singers who blend their own styles into a toe tapping and memorable selection of English/Welsh/Scottish and Irish music.  Offering an eclectic mix of tunes and songs to entertain for the whole evening whilst guiding dancers through a variety of dances.  Featuring Andy Jones (fiddle), Andrew Norman (concertina/vocals), John Evans (guitar/vocals) and Hilary Evans (bodhran/caller.)

Chris Quinn Live in Concert
Saturday 10th May – 8pm  

We are excited to welcome Chris Quinn to perform at the Willow Gallery. Chris is becoming known across the UK and Europe as an exceptional acoustic musician, songwriter and performer. He’s recently performed at some of the world’s most famous venues, from BB Kings Blues Club in New York, to London’s Royal Albert Hall and from Cambridge folk festival to touring with the opening act for The Jools Holland Orchestra.  Heavily influenced by British folk and roots music his songs have been critically acclaimed in the music press. Chris’ shows cover a wide range of contemporary acoustic music alongside his own songs, from inventive flat picked tunes, beautiful interpretations of British folk songs and instrumental solo guitar pieces to mean finger style delta blues.
