Subject : Repair and Renew Grant - Extension to Eligibility Period

Good morning,

As you will already know, Government has been supporting many local areas to recover from the severe weather experienced throughout December, January, February and March 2014 with schemes such as the Repair and Renew Grant.

It has recently been confirmed by Government that the eligibility period for the Repair and Renew Grant and a number of other flood support schemes is to be extended to cover the entire 2013 -2014 financial year. The package of support comes from the Department of Communities and Local Government, the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. It is hoped that this extension will provide welcome support to those who were affected by severe weather and flooding in the months before the winter of 2013/14 but who were not eligible for recovery support under the original schemes.

Residential and business properties affected by flooding (internal) between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2014 could be eligible for grants of £5000 to install flood protection and resilience measures. Such measures include flood doors, demountable flood barriers, self-sealing airbrick covers, non-return valves, applying sealant to brickwork, toilet bungs.

We have already received a number of applications for the grant from properties affected during the original dates of the scheme and these properties have already installed measures to protect their homes against flooding.

Please pass this information on to any property owners who were affected by flooding between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2014 and ask them to contact flood@shropshire.gov.uk or by telephone as below. Please be aware that we are fast approaching the deadline for projects to be completed of 31 January 2015 so property owners are urged to contact us as soon as possible if they may be eligible.

A further reminder that we are able to offer free property level flood protection assessments for properties where flooding has been experienced or there is a risk of flooding. This is a useful service to provide property owners with a list of measures or suggestions for how they could protect their home or increase resilience against flooding.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or to request an application form.
