ANNA HOPE - Wake

Wednesday 4th February 2015 - 7.00pm (for 7.30pm start) at Booka

Join us for an evening with author Anna Hope as she talks about her debut novel, Wake.

Remembrance Day 1920: A wartime secret connects three women's lives: Hettie whose wounded brother won't speak; Evelyn who still grieves for her lost lover; and Ada, who has never received an official letter about her son's death, and is still waiting for him to come home. As the mystery that binds them begins to unravel, far away, in the fields of France, the Unknown Soldier embarks on his journey home. The mood of the nation is turning towards the future – but can these three women ever let go of the past?

Wake is a compelling read. We are delighted to welcome Anna to Oswestry to tie in with the paperback publication.

NAOMI WOOD - Mrs Hemingway

Tuesday 27th January 2015
7.00pm (for 7.30pm start) at Booka

Join us for an evening with Naomi Wood as she talks about her novel Mrs Hemingway.

Mrs Hemingway tells the story of how it was to love – and be loved by – the most famous writer of his generation. Set against the backdrop of bohemian Paris in the 1920s to 1960s Cold War America, Mrs Hemingway is narrated by Ernest Hemingway's four wives: Hadley, Pauline, Martha and Mary. Based on real love-letters and telegrams, this richly imagined novel is inspired by the explosive love-triangles that wrecked each of Hemingway's marriages. As each wife struggles with his mistress for Ernest's heart – and a place in his bed – each marriage slips from tenderness to treachery. Each Mrs Hemingway thought it would last forever. Each one was wrong.

Mrs Hemingway was one of our favourite novels of 2014 and was shortlisted for the International Dylan Thomas Prize. We are delighted to welcome Naomi to Booka to tie in with the publication of Mrs Hemingway in paperback.

Tickets: £5 (redeemable against book purchase. Refreshments provided)

Please book in advance - for tickets,  call in at the shop, or purchase online via our Eventbrite page.

If you can't make the event, but would like a signed & dedicated copy of Mrs Hemingway, please let us know.
