I have received the sad news that Derek Riches, Church Streetdied
yesterday at 8.30am, after a long illness, he would have been 86 next month.
Derek and Valerie and their three boys, Peter, John and Paul came to the
village way back in the late 1970s, Paul went to our primary school.
Derek had a wonderful life as a top chef, and training instructor in
some of the most prestigious catering colleges across the world.
However, before all that he did his National Service and we have already
had one of this stories in the History Blog and I have attached a couple
more to remember a fascinating character and great achiever who has been
living in our midst for some 40 years.
As well as happy memories and unique experiences of a great husband and
father, Derek has left behind, in writings over the last months, a
wonderful record of his life for his boys and grandchildren.
Lets all learn from `Del Boy` and get writing our memories for future
generations.
Family and Friends will say goodbye to Derek at the Shrewsbury
Crematorium at 10am on Tuesday, 27th June (next Tuesday).
