BEN HOLDER and STUART CARTER-SMITH
Sparks will fly : A night not to be missed
Brilliant 'Gypsy Fire' musicians Ben Holder and Stuart Carter-Smith make the perfect gypsy swing duo
Ben Holder, taught classically from the age of six (he studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire) is amongst the most gifted and dynamic young jazz violinists in the UK, influenced by jazz classic masters Benny Goodman, Oscar Peterson and of course Stéphane Grappelli, Joe Venuti and the incomparable Stuff Smith. Ben's innate sense of swing rhythm (something that often eludes classical players) stems from those early listening sessions, and his various awards bear testimony to his extraordinary talent.
Stuart Carter-Smith has a well-earned reputation as a top-class gypsy jazz guitarist. Initially studying and performing the classical guitar, he then fell in love with the music of Django Reinhardt, and his post-classical studies led him to work with some of the finest names in that genre, both in the UK and overseas. A consummate improviser and master of pin-point rhythm accuracy, Stuart is always searching for new musical challenges, and is constantly developing new techniques and interpretations.
Find out more from Ben's and Stuart's reviews, and listen to their music here: www.holderandsmith.com

Accessible for people of all ages and abilities
Instructor: David Bannister
David has been practising various forms of Tai Chi and Qigong for four years. He is dedicated to continuing his practice of the art and to sharing his knowledge.

What distinguishes Tai Chi from Qigong?
With its roots in traditional Chinese martial arts, Tai Chi has evolved over the centuries to become a means of alleviating stress and anxiety, a form of 'meditation in motion'. It has been shown to improve balance, fitness and flexibility. Non-competitive, it is suitable for all ages and fitness levels as the movements are all gentle and low-impact.
Sometimes described as the grandmother of Tai Chi, Qigong is a meditative practice incorporating a variety of co-ordinated body postures, breathing techniques and mental focus. The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong can be practiced at any age and are effective at reducing stress, and improving strength and vitality.
