Oswestry Makes 2018
Here is an update on all the exciting ways to get involved with Oswestry Makes 2018, which is
A festival throughout October to celebrate all the opportunities for learning how to make things, and all the incredible craft talent that exists around the town. This year's theme is Flowers of Peace and Remembrance and we are inviting you to make flowers to decorate the town.
First up there are still three weeks to go before hand in date for the Library exhibition (Friday 28th September). The library exhibition will run from 8-27 October.
If you are still looking for ideas check out our website for patterns and workshops running around the town, such as the free paper flowers workshop at Qube on Tuesday 11 September (drop in any time between 1.30 and 5pm). There are also two free fabric flower workshops on Saturdays 29 September and 6 October, 10am-12pm at Lewis & Holmes on Castle Street. .
If you want to decorate your shop, business, school, favourite building or tree…. Go live date is Monday 15th October. There is a treasure hunt around participating shops with fabulous prizes.
Secondly we are really excited this year, thanks to a generous grant from the Rotary Club of Oswestry's Mary Hignett Bequest Fund, to have our very first Oswestry Makes artist in residence. Local artist Ticky Lowe will spend one week at Oswestry Library (8-13 October) and one week at Qube (15-19 October) creating a pop-up Creative laboratory. Visitors to the lab will be able to see the existing collection of wildflowers and watch Ticky and her volunteers create a poppy and a cornflower, which will illustrate the detailed botany of these flowers of peace and remembrance. There will be public workshops in each venue.
Thirdly - On Saturday 13 October you can have a go at various flower crafts at Oswestry Library 11am-3pm, free and open to all ages, and visit the craft fair at Willow gallery.
Visit our website oswestrymakes.wordpress.com for more information about workshops, events, patterns and photos of the fabulous things people are making.
