Oswestry Library so much going on

Message from Oswestry Library where there is always something going on.  It is a lovely place, I was in there yesterday to give them a garden open poster.

Hearing Aid Clinic Wednesday 1 May 10-12noon Hearing aid clinic run by NHS trained volunteers - Drop in to have your hearing aid cleaned and serviced. No booking required.

One on One computer help at the library! - Did you know that we have a team of volunteers who provide one on one IT support for customers at the library? They will sit with you, either using your own device or one of our library computers, and help you to work through whatever issue it is you're having, be it setting up an email address, or learning to navigate your first smartphone. The support is completely free, but MUST be pre-booked as volunteers are available by appointment only. At present, bookable sessions are available each week on a Tuesday morning, Wednesday all day, and Friday morning. Ask staff to book your place.

Singing for Health with Chloe Murray - Friday 3, 10,17, 24 May (and 7, 14, 21, 28 June) 10.30-11.45am - A new block! Relax and discover how Singing for Health can help support your health and wellbeing. No previous experience or talent required! Learning at Lunchtime: Exam Angst with Lise McNamara Saturday 4 May 12-1pm - Join Lise McNamara from McNamara Focus for an exploration into exam anxiety, how it presents, and how we can best support our young people to respond effectively while building coping skills for life. £3 per person.

Meet the Author: Ed Lux - Saturday 4 May, 10-12pm - An interactive workshop centred around the first book in the fantasy adventure trilogy 'The Nine Keys', by children's author, Ed May. Suitable for ages 9+. Please prebook.

Oswestry Family & Local History Group - Monday 13, 20 May, 10-12 noon, Friday 3, 10, 17, 24, 31  May, 1.30-4pm - Oswestry Family and Local History volunteers run a twice-weekly advice service at Oswestry Library. Teams of trained, knowledgeable volunteers work alongside library staff to help both newcomers and experienced researchers to get the most from the expanded range of resources available. No booking required, just drop in.

Books Aloud- We read, you relax. - Tuesday 14 & 28 May, 2-3pm - Looking for a daytime group with a difference? Drop in, pull up a chair and listen to great stories and poems for adults read aloud by library staff and volunteers.  Free, no booking required. Just come along!

Chatter & Natter - Thursday 2, 16, 30 May, 10-11am We are creating a space for people to talk, whether it is for five minutes or an hour while you drink a brew. Free, no booking required. Just come along!

Learning at Lunchtime: Shakespeare's audiences, their life of plague, plots and playgoing - Wednesday 15 May 12.30-1.30pm - A talk with Pam Johnson, Vice Chair of LADS Theatre. Come along to hear about Shakespeare from the other side of the stage! £3 per person.

Learning at Lunchtime: Skin Hunger with Lise McNamara - Thursday 16 May 12-1pm.  Join Lise McNamara from McNamara Focus for an exploration into the importance of skin contact, what it means that we no longer touch each other, how societal norms have shifted and how we might benefit from shifting them back. £3 per person

Rhymetime at the library! Monday 13 & 20 May, 2-2.30pm - Half an hour of rhymes and singing for under five. Free, no need to book!

Butterflies Craft Workshop Saturday 18 May 10-1pm - Join Dzintra from OsMakes at the library for a free butterfly themed crafty workshop for kids over 5. Parental supervision required.

Learning at Lunchtime: A Welsh Woman's Reflections Wednesday 22 May 12.30-1.30pm - Inspired by her mother's battle with Alzheimer's, Brenda Jones put pen to paper to create a delightful miscellany of short stories. Come along to hear first-hand about her journey, from inspiration to the publishing of three successful books, and to hear some of the stories which have brought joy to so many, and raised thousands of pounds for the Alzheimer's Society. £3 per person

Board Game Café Saturday 25 May, 10-1pm - Come along and try a board game, or bring one from home. Refreshments on sale by the Guide Dogs Trust, come and meet the dogs! Suitable all ages, no pre-booking necessary.

Knit for Life  Wed 29 May 1.30-3pm - Knit for Life is a local knitting charity supporting direct aid distributions of knitting to many countries around the world.  We mostly make blanket squares, hats and toys and sew together squares to make blankets.  No booking required, just come along.

Carer's Trust  Thursday 30 May 10:30-11:30am - A free social group for registered and unregistered carers. Come along for tea and a chat. No booking required.

Learning at Lunchtime: Think Yourself Slim!  Thursday 30 May 12:30-1:30pm - Carol Harris, a local author and trainer, will explain and demonstrate the power of our minds. £3 per person

Dungeons & Dragons at the Library Saturday 11 May, 9.30 for under 16s, 1pm for over 16s. Join the Shropshire Dungeon Master for another whirlwind adventure into the world of monsters, dragons and otherworldly realms- right here in the library!
