Latest news and updates from Qube Hello from us all at Qube... Welcome to our November newsletter! It's all starting to look very festive at Qube as our Christmas Arts and Crafts fair is now on display! Support local artists and makers this year by picking up some truly beautiful gifts, ranging from glassworks, oil paintings and photography to illustrations, sculptures or paper mache animals made from old bank statements! All have been made by independent artists and makers. We've had new additions to our team over the past couple of months, with plenty more starting in November! We're still on the lookout for a Finance Officer and a Social Prescribing Triage Officer to join us. Here is some of our latest news and services…   Exhibition: Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair Our Christmas Arts and Crafts fair is now open! Featuring works in a variety of mediums by independent artists and makers, this exhibition is a fantastic place to pick up gifts for your loved ones. Please support artists and makers and shop local for gifts wherever possible this year.   Afternoon PaintAble Join Joseph Schneider on Monday afternoons from 2:00pm - 4:00pm for our Afternoon PaintAble sessions! PaintAble is for you whether you are a complete beginner or someone who would like tuition to develop their drawing or painting skills. Book your place here. Painting a Landscape in Acrylics Join David Bannister in a fortnightly workshop where you'll paint a landscape from blank canvas through to its completion, learning and employing various techniques and approaches as you go. Starts on 18th November. Book your place here.   We're looking for Dial-a-Ride volunteers! Would you like to become a Dial-a-Ride driver and join our team of volunteers? We provide a vital service for Oswestry, helping those struggling with loneliness and isolation stay connected. Would you like to make a difference to people's lives? Festive Winter Wreathmaking Workshop Join Georgie Wright in a two and a half hour session where you'll come away with a gorgeous festive door wreath. The session will cover classical wreath making methods including mossing, wiring and conditioning foliage to produce a festive wreath plus some Christmas sparkle thrown in. Book your place here. Winter Workshops for Ages 7-14 Qube is holding a series of Winter workshops as part of the HAF programme. Join us for tennis-themed activities, a hot meal and arts and crafts! These are FREE for young people on free school meals and can be booked here. Spaces are available on our website for those not on free school meals for just £5. Expressive Painting in Acrylics In this half-day workshop, David Bannister will help to break down barriers to painting, focusing on creative expression and inspiration. Takes place on 30th November. Report Dangerous tractor driving

If you have seen incidents of dangerous tractor driving of some of the huge vehicles & trailers which come through the village on a regular basis, the advice from the Parish Council is

Two recent experiences from a member of the Mailing List:

he overtook five cyclists on Brown HIll with a trailor! I had to go up on the pavement so he could pull in and the cyclists had to stop and throw themselves against the side of the road to avoid being crushed (near the memorial). And on Friday 14/10 we met the same tractor, though we were too busy taking evasive action to see the driver, on the bend near Slater's driveway. It took the bend at speed and was on our side of the road and again we had to go up on the sidewalk to avoid making contact.

British Ironworks Galactic Warrior appeal for Ukrain

Intergalactic Aid For Ukraine

"Gigantica"

As if landed from a faraway galaxy, Gigantica, who now guards our entrance here at the British Ironwork Centre, has been created to draw urgent attention to the continuing plight in Ukraine. 

The British Ironworks Centre has been alarmed over falling public support for Ukraine, and has decided to relaunch its donation appeal using this galactic warrior.

Galactica has been placed at the entrance of the British Ironworks Centre, maximising public exposure and hopefully inspiring children and families to realise that the UK's support of Ukraine and Freedom shouldn't be allowed to continually fade out.

Gigantica is made from scrap car parts, and represents our reinvigorated campaign to support Ukraine in the war. 

Additionally, Gigantica is created of entirely of scrap plastic bumpers and other car parts – doubling as a champion of recycling! It's always our ambition to use scrap materials in addressing national and worldwide issues.

Chairman of  the British Ironwork Centre, Clive Knowles, commented that "we've seen an enormous fall in public donations arriving. Originally, we were receiving 2-3 donations a day, but now we've dropped to 1 donation every few weeks."

He continued: "With winter now upon Ukraine and the Russians bombing public infrastructure and housing, we feel that this humanitarian effort needs to be escalated and that our conscience had to see our efforts reenergised". 

Our hope is that this striking robot will raise important awareness of the ongoing war in Ukraine, and even more importantly, increase donations here at the Centre.

Gigantica is something that can be enjoyed and cherished by all (and that can provide plenty of picture and selfie opportunities!), while simultaneously providing a boost to an extremely important cause.

All of our sculptures and creations are deliberately created to raise public awareness to the difficulties here in the UK and around the world. From the environment crisis to social issues, using art to amplify messages to improve the world we all depend upon is something we strongly believe in.
