A great present for HIM!

Loton Park Drivers' School

Supported by TTC Group

Loton Park Drivers School 2014

14th May, 9th July, 6th August

Whether you are a member of the public who wishes to learn how to approach the handling potential of a road-going car, or a seasoned competitor looking for the refinements necessary to achieve a quicker time up the hill climb, Loton Park Drivers’ School is for you.  This applies to anyone who is 16 years old or over.

Highly experienced instructors will guide you through the demands of every corner on this very technical track.  After an accompanied walk up the hill with every entry, apex and exit marked on each corner, you will be given a ride with an Instructor to emphasise the need for a smooth flowing approach.  You will then be let loose in your road-going car for a number of individual runs.  These will be observed and recorded and an Instructor will be available in the Paddock, primarily to advise on your car set-up, tyre pressures etc., but also ready with immediate suggestions on how to improve your line.  There will be a break for a splendid two course lunch which will be followed by an in-depth analysis of your runs from the videos available.  After this there will be more individual runs during which you will be able to put in to practice the suggested improvements.  At the end of these there will be light refreshments followed by further analysis of your driving skills based upon Instructors observation and video evidence.  The day will culminate in the award of individual certificates and two prizes, one for the best driver on the day and the second for the most improved over the day.

Feedback from the three previous years has continuously emphasised that, no matter what your driving skills, everyone who takes part in Loton Park Drivers’ School learns something to their advantage.  This is true whether you are using a prized exotic car or the family runabout and is also borne out by the number of participants who return for another day.  As is usual at Loton Park there is always a friendly atmosphere which helps those who are taking part in a school of this type for the first time.

The only constraints are that the car you use must be road-going,  proof of this will be required including a current MoT if appropriate, and must be silenced to road-going standards to protect the environment for the villagers.  For your own safety you will be required to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long trousers and a crash helmet.  If you do not own the latter we have crash helmets available on loan.

The cost is £180 per person per school day.  Guests may accompany you at a cost of £20 which includes lunch and refreshments.  For National B licence holders wishing to have a signature for upgrading their licence there is a basic written exam to be taken at an additional cost of £50.

For further information please contact School Secretary, Martyn Silcox, on clubsec@hdlcc.com or 01384 877502.

Afternoon Tea at the Market Hall

Message from Sarah Hart, Shrewsbury Market PR.

Remember, Shrewsbury Food Festival this Saturday and Sunday.

AFTERNOON TEA AT THE MARKET HALL

You can reserve your Afternoon Tea in advance on 01743 360223 to avoid disappointment.

The Market Buffet, in Shrewsbury Market Hall, is laying on an impressive spread of dainty finger sandwiches, velvety chocolate mousse cream scones, mini chocolates eclairs and its famous strawberry shortcake.

The market is the official ‘Fringe’ of the food festival with a host of attractions lined up including chef cooking demonstrations from 11am to 5pm, taster trails from 10am, and kids’ maize mask-making and seed-planting  workshops with the Shropshire Visual Art Network and Incredible Edible 12-2pm.

There will also be a Mulch-a-do-about-Art exhibition at the Visual Art Network Gallery, housed within the building, and early festival goers can get a head start with a festival breakfast at the Birds Nest Café, Café AleOli and The Market Buffet.

The Market Buffet’s traditional full afternoon tea will be available from 2.30pm to 5pm on Saturday June 28 only, at the special price of £7.50 per person. Its traditional spread was a huge hit last year, selling out within a couple of hours.

The popular café, located on the upper gallery of the market hall, is planning to replicate some of the atmosphere of a vintage Lyons teashop.

The café is popular with diners looking for traditional English cooking, including home-baked cakes, savoury and sweet pies, quiches, puddings and scones. It employs seven members of staff and has been successful at attaining a top food hygiene rating of five stars.

Message from Colin Case.

I think virtually every hook now has a basket hanging from it, and all were watered this morning.
Many thanks to the villagers who have "adopted" one near them - see if there is one needing a bit of TLC near you.

Amazing!

This message comes from Val Fisher, who was injured in a riding accident many years ago.   An wonderful tribute to her endeavours in `para-sport` (?) and great to know that the Mailing List can achieve even more than we could possibly have imagined.
Thanks for telling us Val.

Dear Yoland ,
Thought you might like to read this message I randomly received earlier today ,
I felt truly humbled , sometimes the world we live in is a beautiful place.
    Best wishes
    Val.

Subject: Inspiration

Dear Val,

Please forgive the unsolicited e-mail.

I am a 50 year old man who recently suffered a small stroke and is just about to return to work, basically fully recovered.

Feeling a bit down, I stumbled upon the piece the BBC did, talking about the equipment you were using to walk.

I was genuinely humbled, seeing your enthusiasm and focus and a couple of key strokes into Google I found another piece about wheelchair tennis.

I just wanted to say, that you have to me given my a real sense of what human spirit can achieve.

Your email address was on a blog, compendium of emails by Yoland Brown: -

I do not want you to feel unsettled by this and only wanted to say what a positive impact your positivity had on me.

Kind Regards,

David Forrester

Shropshire Flood Debate

Message from Luke Neal, Meres & Mosses.

Dear All,

Thought you might be interested in the Shropshire Flood Debate being hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire. It’s a strong panel and should be a good opportunity to take part in a solid discussion about this key topic.

Have a good weekend,
