Subject: 2 spare tickets on coach trip to Ireland

Dear Des and Colleen,

While Tony Sparham and Alison are away, we have Rev Bonnie Luft and 4 of her family staying at the Rectory. They are planning to go on a coach tour of Ireland starting Monday 1st Sept until Friday 5th September. Unfo a rtunately one of the party fell and broke her collar bone this week and she and her husband are unable to go. There are thus 2 spare tickets which are available free if any one is interested at such short notice.

I wondered if you could let your circle of contacts know and if anyone is interested possibly they could contact either you or me.

Best Wishes

Michael.

Another defibrulator

Message from Colin Case.

Some time ago, with a lot of help from parents, our School obtained a defibrillator.
School have now kindly decided to share this vital piece of medical equipment with the Community.
To achieve this, a box is being fitted on the outside of the school building to house the unit. It has to be on the school building so that it is still readily available for school use (for children or staff during school hours) and is also close to a source of electrical power for the anti-condensation heater.
The box is locked with a key code.

There is ample evidence that easy access to a defibrillator can save lives. Of course, it is virtually impossible to site a defibrillator within a few minutes of every house-hold in our community, but a central position such as the school will give the best chance of effective use for a significant proportion of our residents. And every minute counts.

There is tons of evidence that supports their use - even by members of the public, after a short training session (less than half a day). The device gives verbal instructions to make use as foolproof as possible, automatically matching its charge to any existing heartbeat.

I can do no better than quote from the local chief trainer:-
"Defibrillation is the only known therapy for cardiac arrest. The scientific evidence in support of their use is overwhelming."

Baschurch and Myddle already run similar systems.
The next step is to find enough volunteers to be trained in the same way that several school staff members have been trained. So we need volunteers.
Once trained, volunteers can be added to a list of people who can be contacted should an emergency arise. But volunteers are NOT on stand-by at particular times. The emergency services just run down a list of volunteer phone numbers and the first one who is available gets the job. They may have to try 8 or 12 numbers before they happen to catch someone who is able to attend.
There are not many requirements - but in our locality it is best if you have access to a car.

So contact me, Yoland, School or Avril Sanders Royle if you are interested in being trained or want to find out more:-

Planning - victory for common sense!

Message from Colin Case.

The Appeal against the Shropshire Council decision to reject the Planning Application to build three new homes on the Car Park and Garages plot in Birch Grove, just to the West of Birch Close has been REJECTED.

Thus the Shropshire Council decision to reject the application stands - the three new homes will not be built.

You can see the Decision Notice here - www.rxit.org.uk/AppealDecision3.pdf
The full Case can be accessed on the Planning Portal here:-
http://www.pcs.planningportal.gov.uk/pcsportal/ViewCase.asp?caseid=2214151&coid=3

I have copied the Decision Notice and made it available locally so that residents don't have to search for it - the web site is not easy.
The Decision was made on 22nd July - I am not sure why we don't seem to have been notified - perhaps some were.

This still leaves the problem about what to do about the garages - they seem to be too small for today's cars.

Anyway, a victory for the residents - with support from Shropshire Council - so well done.

Tea Rooms in Memorial Hall

Message from Colin Case.

I am pleased to note that the Planning Application to use the Memorial Hall as a Tea Room has been approved - see the Officer's Report  HERE
We all recognise that the key point in some of the objections is that parking may emerge as a problem.
So it relies on all users to minimise the inconvenience to local residents and business operators - recognising that the garage forecourt is not a Public Car Park, HGVs need access at the side of the Flower Shop and there are drives and parking spaces for residents that should not be obstructed. But with a sensible approach by customers I am sure we can all live with the Planning Decision.
So the best of luck to the new Tea Room enterprise.
One final comment is that my note enclosing the extract from the Old Red Minute Book has apparently raised the question about whether the Charities Commission is aware that our Charity also covers the Memorial Hall. The simplest of research will confirm that they are most certainly aware - this extract from our page on the Charity Commission web site shows that "we" cover the Memorial Hall as well as the Village Hall:-
