Midsummer Night`s Dream at Walford College

Message from Hazel Wakefield at Walford College.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Open Air Production at Walford Campus!

A very exciting theatre production is coming to the Walford Campus of Walford and North Shropshire College (WNSC) on Sunday 17th August at 5pm. The Chapterhouse Theatre Company will be performing at Walford as part of their Open-air Garden Theatre Tour of the UK and Ireland this year. The production will give the audience ‘Magical Theatre in a Magical Surrounding.’ The College has a beautiful walled garden that will provide the space needed to create the production. The audience of families and couples are invited to attend with picnics to enjoy the open-air evening of theatre under the stars. A bar and refreshments will also be available.

The production will take place on Sunday 17th August at 5pm. The doors open at 3.30pm for those who want to get a good spot and enjoy their picnic. The College also has a contingency in place so that if there is wet weather, the production will go ahead in the spacious Equine Indoor Arena.

Hazel Wakefield is Business Projects Manager at WNSC and comments, ‘We are thrilled to welcome the Chapterhouse Theatre Company to Walford. This is an exciting event for us to hold and we look forward to welcoming theatre goers from the local community and further afield to what promises to be a fantastic theatre production within the beautiful grounds of our College.’

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is William Shakespeare’s best-loved romantic comedy. The Theatre Company has this to say, ‘Let yourself be whisked away on a thrilling journey to the most magical of forests and meet star-crossed lovers, playful fairies and raucous travelling players.’ Chapterhouse has a long tradition in producing open-air Shakespeare productions and almost every year since their formation in 2000, Chapterhouse tours have featured A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Richard Main of Chapterhouse and Producer comments, “Its comedy situations and romance are the foundation stone for every comedy and comedic moment that we see in our own time. It is surprising how little our collective sense of humour has changed over so long a time, but A Midsummer Night’s Dream encapsulates the best in writing, verse and sheer exuberance of theatre and those things seem to last forever. Therefore, it resonates just as deeply with a modern audience as it would have with that of its contemporaries. There is little else that can compare to the sense of achievement and the genuine glow of satisfaction that comes from producing the works of the greatest writer we shall ever know”
