Volunteering on the Cliffe

Dear Blogger

Message from David Shearan, Cliffe Crew.

How do you fancy volunteering occasionally and doing something beneficial for your local area? Read on to find out how.

The Cliffe is a special place. It's a treasured green space and it's also a rare habitat for plants and wildlife. A group of people called the Cliffe Crew help to maintain the Cliffe for our use and they help with conservation tasks for the habitat.

The next Cliffe Crew working party is on Sunday 12th December from 9:00am to 12 noon. We meet outside Hill Cottage which is at the top of the bridleway which leads up from Little Ness Road.

At this session we will be raking up and removing the bracken brash that was created by the heavy horse harrowing in October. If you want to come and help please bring your own rake if you have one, and your own refreshments. We will be led by our Park Ranger Lee who will also be able to answer any questions you have about the Cliffe habitat and its conservation.

See attached picture of the Cliffe/.

Please contact David Shearan (dave.shearan@icloud.com) if you do want to attend

An electric bike stolen near Platt Mill this afternoon

Dear Blogger

Message from Sue Boulding, Baschurch.

A friend had his Brompton electric bike stolen at around 3 this afternoon, from the bus stop near Platt Mill.

If anyone is offered one for sale, or if anyone notices someone is suddenly using one, could they let me and the police know?

R.I.P. PETER EVANS

Dear Blogger

PETER EVANS,  of Castle View, Church Street died suddenly on 4th November, he will be sadly missed by his wife Lynn and the village organisations he supported.  Peter contributed so much to our village.

Peter`s funeral will be at the Shrewsbury Crematorium at 12.30 on 8th December.   Family flowers only please but any donations for the Air Ambulance would be appreciated.

Peter and Lynne retired to Ruyton XI Towns in the summer of 1996 after he had served in the post office for many years.  His main interests were walking, wildlife, particularly owls, and he was a member of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and the National Trust.  He had a keen interest in all things that fly, mechanical or otherwise. As a keen gardener, he was Chair of the Cliffe Garden Club and also a member of the Ruyton Local History Society.  An accomplished photographer, Peter took many pictures of the village, including those in the local history website.

Peter and Lynn enjoyed some interesting long distance holidays when he was able to put his photography skills to good use, and he was the obvious person to judge the photography section of the Home Grown Show.

Peter leaves his wife  Lynn and many friends in the village.
