Late Night events to return to Shrewsbury Market Hall

Saturday Late Night events are returning to Shrewsbury Market Hall after a break of more than 18 months.

Dates have been set for August 7, September 18, October 30 and December 4 following the lifting of coronavirus restrictions.

A selection of cafes and bars will open up until 10pm and a range of retail stalls will also open late.

"These are family-friendly evenings when the market takes on a continental-style nightlife appeal," said Facilities Manager Kate Gittins.

"People come to enjoy delicious food and drink and get the chance to shop a unique collection of independent retail stalls at a more leisurely pace.

"Our first event 'though will be smaller than usual, as we'll be dipping our toe in the water after the experience of the last 18 months.

"We've set four dates until the end of the year, but these are subject to any future restrictions that the Government may re-introduce due to the pandemic.

"Some precautions will remain in place to help protect our customers and traders. We'll continue to operate a one-way system up-and-down the stairs, although the one-way system has been removed from the gallery floor. Customers may wish to wear masks unless seated at tables."

The market has seen a clutch of new food and drink businesses open in recent months, including Petit Glou wine bar café and the restaurant Moreish. These will both be open late on August 7, along with House of Yum, Moli Tea House, Gindifferent bar and Tom"s Table. Indian Street Food has yet to confirm whether it will be opening for the evening.

Another sunny weekend of gardens open! We have another wonderful selection of gardens open this coming weekend for the National Garden Scheme in Shropshire and the weather, albeit a little cooler, is still set fair. We are raising considerable sums for our nursing and caring charities, so thank you all very much for your continued support. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SCHEDULED OPENING OF THE ALBRIGHTON TRUST MOAT & GARDENS ON FRIDAY 30th JULY HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE CLOSURE OF THE ALBRIGHTON BY-PASS.  THE SATURDAY 31st JULY OPENING WILL GO AHEAD AS PLANNED.  SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE, THIS IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL! We're are now running an additional 10am trip, 7 days a week, so please inform your early bird customers for us!

 

Please advise customers that the tickets they buy from you do not guarantee them a space on a particular trip, so they will need to call us if they wish to book on for a specified slot. They can call us on 01743 369741. Our capacity is slightly more limited at present as we have removed some tables upstairs to allow for extra distancing.

 

Please ensure you give each customer their own individual tickets, rather than writing 2 on one ticket. (Except in the case of a family ticket which is 1 between 2 adults and 2 children).

 

When writing out a ticket please ensure you write your companies name on the top of the ticket by 'Reseller Name' - not the customer's name.

There are six simple things you can do this summer to help stop the spread of COVID-19: Wash your hands regularly Wear a face covering in busy places or where ventilation is poor Ensure indoor areas are well ventilated Test twice a week using a Lateral Flow Test if you don't have symptoms, or do a PCR test if you do develop symptoms Get both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine Check into venues using the NHS COVID-19 app Sharp rise in COVID-19 cases Coronavirus figures 9 to 15 July 2021 There were 1,037 positive COVID-19 cases in Shropshire between 9-15 July and 11 hospital beds occupied by confirmed COVID-19 patients. More than half of the cases were in our younger population, with the average age just 29. While the infection rate in Shropshire is still below the national and regional averages, cases are increasing daily and the public health team is dealing with 46 outbreaks in the county. What to expect at our services and buildings Advise to customers when entering our buildings We want the public to be able to access our services in the safest way possible, so there are some simple steps we will be encouraging customers to follow now most legal restrictions have been lifted. These include: Wear a face covering, especially in enclosed spaces. We ask all our staff to wear one too. Latest figures show that more than 45% of 18 to 24-year-olds and more than 60% of 25 to 29-year-olds across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin have already had their first vaccine. Now, it is hoped the latest campaign will help increase numbers even further. Sam from Shropshire is backing the campaign in the hope of getting life back to normal. Anyone over the age of 18 can head to a walk-in clinic and get the jab – no appointment necessary. Full details on walk-in clinics are available here. Keep testing twice a week Rapid Lateral Flow test kit Now coronavirus restrictions have been lifted and people are enjoying spending more time with family and friends, it's more important than ever that people are testing twice a week using a Lateral Flow Test. These rapid tests are for people without symptoms and are key to stopping the spread of COVID-19. One in three people with the virus don't have any symptoms but could still pass it onto someone who may end up becoming extremely unwell. Tests are free and you will get a result in about 30 minutes. After the May elections there were two seats left on the Parish Council that can be filled by co-option. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect their community, and who are interested in making a difference. Make a change and become a Parish Councillor.

If you are interested, please complete the attached application form (a Word version can be requested from the Clerk) and return to the clerk by 5pm on Tues 31st August 2021. The Parish Council hopes to make a decision at the next meeting on Tues 7th Sept 2021.
