Gardener wanted at Ruyton School

This message from Colin Case

Our Village Primary School, St John the Baptist in Ruyton XI Towns, wants a Gardener to come once a week to encourage and educate the children about Gardening.
To start as soon as possible.
Must enjoy working with children, have lots of patience and good gardening knowledge (for the many questions)
Must be willing to be CRB checked - and having a greenhouse would be an advantage.

Contact the school office on 01939 260445

Interviews will be conducted by the children after Easter.

From the Royal Horticultural Society magazine `The Gardener`

Children in England could be taking gardening lessons at school from September 2014 under new Department of Education proposals to revise the National Curriculum.

A new outline for teaching says pup[ils should learn practical skills and knowledge in horticulture so that they can cultivate plants for food or for decorative displays (flowers!).

The proposed curriculum changes apply to children in primary and secondary schools ages 5-14 (Key Stages 1-3).

HITCHCOCK (12A)  Saturday 13th April 7:30pm

Lurking behind Alfred Hitchcock, cinema's "master of suspense" -- the extraordinary film icon known for orchestrating some of the most intense experiences of menace and intrigue audiences have ever seen, was a hidden side: his creatively explosive romance with his steadfast wife and filmmaking collaborator, Alma Reville.

Starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlet Johansson and Danny Huston Hitchcock  lays bare their captivating and complex love story. It does so through the sly, shadowy lens of their most daring filmmaking adventure: the making of the spine-tingling 1960 thriller, PSYCHO, which would become the director's most controversial and legendary film.

When the tumultuous, against-the-odds production was over, nothing about movies would ever be the same - but few realized that it took two to pull it off.

My Brother The Devil  (15)  Saturday 20th April 7:30pm

A masterful debut from one of England's boldest and brightest new talents, Sally El Hosaini's MY BROTHER THE DEVIL stars James Floyd as Rashid, a young man from a traditional Arab family who runs with a gang that rules the streets of Hackney, one of London's most ethnically-mixed and historically volatile neighborhoods.

Rashid's younger brother, Mo, (Fadi Elsayed) idolizes his handsome, charismatic older brother and dreams of following in his footsteps, but Rashid envisions a different life for Mo and insists that he stay away from gang life and stick to his studies. When Rashid forms a bond with Sayyid (Said Taghmaoui), an older man of similar background who is now a successful photographer, he is introduced to a world he never knew existed. But, just as he decides he wants out of his dead-end life on the streets, Mo decides he wants in, and starts doing drug runs behind Rashid's back.

Headed on a collision course of conflicting desires, each young man is forced to face himself and confront the brother he thought he knew.

Hyde Park On Hudson (12A)  Wednesday 24th April 1:00pm
Market Day Matinee

In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor, host the King and Queen of England for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson in upstate New York in the first-ever visit of a reigning English monarch to America.

With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support. But international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR's domestic establishment, as wife, mother and mistresses all conspire to make the royal weekend an unforgettable one. Seen through the eyes of Daisy, Franklin's neighbor and intimate, the weekend will produce not only a special relationship between two great nations, but, for Daisy, a deeper understanding of the mysteries of love and friendship.

Just a reminder that Local Elections are scheduled for 2nd May - the Polling Station for Ruyton XI Towns is the Memorial Hall.
If anyone wants to stand as a potential Parish Councillor the information below from the Shropshire Association of Local Councils Web Site might be useful:-

More information is available on the Shropshire Council Web Site:-

This site also has information for anyone considering standing for Election as a Councillor in our Unitary Authority.

The Nomination process to become a Parish Council Candidate is quite simple:-
Get a Nomination Pack (either from Shropshire Council when they reopen after Easter - or by contacting me - I have access to some "spares")
Fill in the Nomination Paper (just name & address etc)
Get a Proposer and Seconder to sign it - just two relations, friends or neighbours - not difficult - but needs the Polling Numbers - I can help with this if you are stuck
Complete the Consent to Nomination Form (to confirm you are willing to stand) and get your signature witnessed.
Deliver the two forms to Shire Hall BEFORE NOON ON 5th APRIL - late deliveries will NOT be accepted.

I have most of the paperwork and Guidance Notes etc and I'm happy to help anyone with the process - just email or call if you are interested.

Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten
and Eric Crozier

Following last year's stunning production of Mozart's masterpiece Don Giovanni, Mid Wales Opera returns in 2013 to celebrate the centenary of one of the country's greatest composers - Benjamin Britten. Don't miss this unique opportunity to enjoy Britten's classic comic depiction of village life, Albert Herring.

It is time for the sleepy village of Loxford to choose a May Queen but none of the local girls quite fit the bill…

"Country virgins, if there be such, think too little, and see too much"

So now all eyes focus on Albert, from the greengrocer's, pure and innocent as they come. Surely the perfect candidate to be the village's first May King? But the hapless Albert is slipped a little something in his victory glass of lemonade and suddenly things take a turn for the worse…

One of the composer's most perfect gems - witty and irreverent - this comedy opera is bound to bring a smile to your face…
