The Talbot Inn, Ruyton XI Towns

Dear Blogger

Message from Gavin & Charlotte at The Talbot.

"We feel that, as long as the recently announced restrictions are in place, it's going to be impossible to make the pub commercially viable.
As such, we are delaying reopening."

I'll keep you abreast of any developments.

Thanks,

Shropshire gardens open in aid of nursing charities
Thank you to all our wonderful supporters who visited our gardens during the last week, fundraising for our nursing charities is well underway again!
If you haven't visited a National Garden Scheme garden yet, you can be assured of a safe, friendly welcome.  We work out in advance the safe, maximum number of visitors for the garden, allowing visitors plenty of time and space to visit so you can visit our gardens with confidence.
A typical comment from our visitors is "it's just so lovely to be out to share someone else's garden!"  So many visitors have also taken the opportunity to meet up safely with family members and have a picnic in our gardens.
All you need to do to book a ticket to one of our gardens is to go to the National Garden Scheme website below, click on Book to Visit a Garden, then Midlands, and all the Shropshire gardens open in the coming week will be shown.  Then click on the time you'd like to come and the number of tickets you'd like and pay for them on-line - it is very straightforward and easy.
If you have any problems buying tickets, please let me know.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Replacement shuttle bus when Church Street closed

Dear Blogger

Message from Lydia Bardsley, Ruyton XI Towns Parish Council.- see also attachment

Replacement shuttle bus service 29th June to 3rd July

Due to the forthcoming road closures on Church Street, the normal 576 bus service connecting Ruyton XI Towns with Oswestry and Shrewsbury will not be able to travel through the village. As there are many individuals in the parish who rely on the bus, the Parish Council has been pushing both Arriva and Shropshire Council to arrange an alternative service for a number of weeks. So we are very relieved to finally confirm that there will indeed be a replacement shuttle bus service connecting Oswestry and Ruyton XI Towns from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July. PLEASE NOTE: the shuttle service will terminate at School Road in the village, and it will NOT connect Ruyton XI Towns with Shrewsbury. You can view the replacement shuttle service timetable here.

The Parish Council is arranging for the shuttle bus timetable to be displayed at bus stops and notice boards around the parish, and there are also posts on the Council website and local Facebook page. Please feel free to share this information with anyone who may benefit.

The Parish Council would like to thank everyone involved for helping to keep the community connected during the road closures.

Casual Vacancy at Ruyton XI Towns Parish Council

Dear Blogger

Message from Lydia Bardsley, Ruyton XI Towns Parish Clerk

Casual Vacancy at Ruyton XI Towns Parish Council

Following the resignation of Cllr Ryan Harrison to pursue teacher training, there is now an empty seat on the parish council (known as a casual vacancy). We have already notified Shropshire Council, and you can view the notice of casual vacancy on our website. Please note, that due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, in the event that a bye-election is requested to fill the vacancy, then such an election is not expected to take place before May 2021. If no election is requested before the deadline specified in the notice, then the council may fill the vacant seat by co-option. If you would like more information on any of the above please contact the parish council clerk.

We would like to thank Cllr Harrison for all his hardwork and dedication to the council and community over the last three years, and wish him all the very best for his new career.

Kind regards,

AFTERNOON TEA WITH
RACHEL JOYCE

Settle down with your own afternoon tea on Thursday 23rd July at 4pm and join Rachel Joyce as she talks about her highly anticipated new novel Miss Benson's Beetle.

>From the bestselling author of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Queenie Malone, and The Music Shop comes an uplifting and immersive tale of female friendship - the perfect novel to escape with this Summer!

It is 1950. In a devastating moment of clarity, Margery Benson abandons her dead-end job and advertises for an assistant to accompany her on an expedition. She is going to travel to the other side of the world to search for a beetle that may or may not exist.

Enid Pretty, in her unlikely pink travel suit, is not the companion Margery had in mind. And yet together they will be drawn into an adventure that will exceed every expectation. They will risk everything, break all the rules, and at the top of a red mountain, discover their best selves.

This is a story that is less about what can be found than the belief it might be found; it is an intoxicating adventure story but it is also about what it means to be a woman and a tender exploration of a friendship that defies all boundaries.

This is an online event on Zoom for which booking is required.

Once registered you will receive an email with access codes to the event. You will also receive a reminder a day before and an hour before the event.

Tickets: £20 to include a dedicated signed copy of Miss Benson's Beetle with special bookplate, delivered to your door.

Format: Online Event brought to you by At Home with 4 Indies via Zoom
