No apologies for sending this. If you agree, send it to everyone in your Contacts list. Wayne Rooney has just negotiated a £30,000 PER WEEK rise on top of his already grotesquely enormous contract.  I think they should donate all their England World Cup appearance money + a min of 1 month's money to Help for Heroes.

Two planes landed in England the other day :

One carried a group of grotesquely over paid, immature, under achievers who complained they were tired and missed their families after two weeks in five star accommodations.

The other carried the coffins of 7 fallen soldiers who had spent months away from loved ones living in tents in a war zone, they couldn't complain.

These soldiers earn £15k to £30k a year not a day.

If you believe that the England team should donate two weeks' wages to Help the Heroes then please forward this on.

Art Exhibition, Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings

An exhibition of artwork inspired by Shrewsbury’s historic Flaxmill is now open to the public at Shrewsbury Market Hall.

The Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings Touring Exhibition will be at the Visual Art Network gallery until July 28. The exhibit is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, between 10am and 4pm.

Five of the pieces on display came top of a Facebook poll from the 70 exhibits at the Friends Open Arts Exhibition held in September last year.

Richard Benjamin, Co-ordinator of FFM Community Arts said:  “These are tremendous interpretations of this iconic collection of buildings and the stories which lie within them. The Touring Exhibition has already stimulated a great deal of interest.  We are looking for even more successes from the Open Arts Exhibition coming up in September. Anyone interested in participating in the Open Exhibition should visit our website at www.flaxmill-maltings.co.uk or email flaxmillmaltings@gmail.com.”

Alongside the exhibition will be a textile piece from students of Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology and other art inspired by the Ditherington Flaxmill Maltings.

Visitors will also be able to see flax being spun by Maralyn Hepworth on Fridays and Saturdays and an arts demonstration by Dea Paradisos on July 24.

Maralyn said: "Ten years ago I wove a tapestry of the Flaxmill as it gradually became derelict and nature began to take over.  It is very exciting to be part of this first exhibition organised by the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings at such an exciting time for this important, iconic building."

Sunday car parking just £1

Sunday car parking charges in Shrewsbury are to be slashed in a drive to attract more visitors to the town.

Shropshire Council is to launch a flat rate charge of £1 for an eight-week trial period starting on Saturday, July 22, and running until Sunday, September 9.

“We feel this move shows that Shrewsbury as a town is open and welcomes visitors and we believe in will encourage an increase in visitor numbers from which we will all benefit.”

The trial will see drivers able to park for just £1 in the town’s 850-space Raven Meadows multi-storey car park which will be open from 9am until 7pm on Sundays. Parking there for the six hours it is open on Sundays currently costs £6 with the first hour costing £1.50.

In addition the council have agreed that anyone paying to park for one hour in their other pay band display car parks in the town will also be able to stay all day.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for parking, said: “We want to work in partnership with the traders in Shrewsbury and are really pleased to be making this offer to encourage people to come and visit Shrewsbury.

“We hope that with these special rates in our council car parks people will feel relaxed to stay longer and enjoy a day out in the town.”

"The reduced rate gives Marks and Spencers and other shops the chance to attract visitors from a wider area who might have thought twice about travelling here before and why would you want to visit other towns when you could come to a magnificent medieval town like ours?”

“Shrewsbury is a wonderful town with so many attractions, one of which is the shopping and the mix of different stores from small independent retailers to household names. Hopefully this will encourage many of the independents to open for the first time.”
