A seriousroad traffic accident to a child in the village

Most of know Karen at our own Cafe Eleven, she is very much the centre which holds the village together and particularly raising funds for various charities.

On Tuesday morning this week, Karen`s 11 year old granddaughter was in a collision with a van on School Road. She has some serious head and facial injuries. Amey is in Birmingham Children's Hospital so she is getting the best care. They were hoping to start reconstructive surgery on her face today but have deferred that as there is still swelling on the brain from one of 2 skull fractures. They also seem to think that the loss of sight she has in one eye is permanent. We are devastated as you can imagine. Whilst it doesn't seem on this occasion that the driver was speeding it has really got people talking about how dangerous that road is - and it really shouldn't be, it's a quiet rural village for God's sake!

Both School Road and Church Street are incredibly busy in the morning with cars taking children to our school, Packwood and Corbet plus people driving through the village to go to work.   Many cars are going too fast and some of the wagons on these roads are HUGE.

Slow down when you see a child on the pavement, children are unpredictable
Many years ago a child coming home down School Road, dropped something in the road and promptly bent down to pick it up, an oncoming car could not stop in time to avoid her.

Karen is so grateful for the amazing support and care she and her family have had from "our fantastic community".   Someone in the village has started a fundraising page to take the financial pressure off Amey`s mother allowing them to just concentrate on Amey and not worry about what's going on at home.  Getting to and from the hospital in Birmingham for an indeterminant time is very expensive, especially when Amey`s Mum is self employed and her Dad about to start a new job.

If you would like to donate on line this is the link or, of course, you could drop in to see Karen in Cafe Eleven.

It is possible the cafe will be closed sometimes, over this difficult period.
