Caring for Carers, with Lise McNamara
Thursday 28th June, 1-3pm, Oswestry Library

This personal development workshop aims to share techniques to support your well-being. This way you are in a stronger position to focus on those you are caring for.

Lise McNamara has a 30-year background as an Occupational Therapist, 20 of those as a Consultant in psychosocial, well-being, ergonomics and working environment. 3 years ago, she became an accredited Kinesiologist practitioner and teacher of Kinesiology.

Learning at Lunchtime: What is Kinesiology and how can it benefit you?
Tuesday 3rd July 12.30-1.30pm, Oswestry Library

A beginner's introduction to Kinesiology and its applications, delivered by Lise McNamara.

The session will be of interest to anybody that is curious and would like to learn about this complementary treatment form, how it can be used for diet, allergies and nutrition and other areas it can be used for.

A demonstration will be given of how Kinesiology can be used for example: dyslexia, achieving a goal, and if time allows, more.

Learning at Lunchtime: Why did Australia enter WWI? A talk by Wendy Lowdon
Thursday 5th July 12:30-1:30pm, Oswestry Library

In order to adequately understand why the country rushed to war it is important to have a perspective on Australia prior to 1914; to consider the nation's position in terms of its political, social and economic standing which contributed to the decision to go to war.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE LAUNCH!

The Summer Reading Challenge 2018 launches on the 14th of July! This year it is a Mischief Makers theme, based on the Beano. Stay tuned for further updates on all the wild and wacky events we'll have planned for the kids over summer.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a free national incentive scheme, created by the Reading Agency and delivered by libraries. Children can sign up to read six books of their choice over the summer, to win an incentive for every two books read, and then a gold medal and certificate at completion. Shropshire Libraries also runs a teenage and adult reading challenge alongside, so the whole family can join in!


Faerie Wonderland Workshop with P.J.Roscoe
Thursday 26 July, 2pm-4pm, Oswestry Library

Join author P.J.Roscoe and illustrator Liz Monks for a magical trip into a faerie wonderland, with faerie storytelling and a faerie garden craft workshop using elements from nature. Suitable for ages 4+. Opportunity will be available to buy signed copies of P.J.Roscoe's books at special discount.

Sign up to the Arts Award scheme will be available at the beginning of this event. This is a scheme of self guided creative activity for children over the summer, the completion of which will achieve an Arts Award 'Discover' qualification. Sign up to the scheme is optional, and costs an extra £5 on the day (separate to ticket price).

Learning at Lunchtime: Drop into Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet.
Thursday 12th July, 12:30-1:30, Oswestry Library

Shakespeare's most famous story of love at first sight explodes with intense passion in this contemporary production with heart-breaking consequences. 

Explore with Pam Johnson some of the deeper meanings and the background of this famous tale of passion and tragedy.

(The RSC production is to be screened live at Kinokulture on Wednesday, 18 July)

Learning at Lunchtime: Herbs- grow them, use them and love them!
Wednesday 18th July, 12:30-1:30, Oswestry Library

Are you one of the many people who have herbs growing in your garden but never use them?  Cathy Preston gives an insight into the many practical uses for common and unusual herbs.  An interactive talk where you can sniff, taste and hopefully be inspired to grow and use herbs for you and the wildlife in your garden.

Learning at Lunchtime: The Mabinogion
Thursday 26 July, 12:30-1:30pm, Oswestry Library

Dave Andrews, Reader and Writer in Residence at Oswestry Library, discusses the medieval Welsh tales which have had such a huge influence on the development of the romance in English, French and German literature and also on the Arthurian Legend.

Breast Cancer Awareness and how you can protect yourself: A talk by Jackie Vaughan (Breast Cancer UK)
Friday 27th July, 10:30am - 11:30am, Oswestry Library

Breast Cancer UK believes that breast cancer prevention is possible and wants you to know what you can do to reduce your risk.

Rhyme Time sessions at Oswestry Library

Did you know that we offer free Rhyme Time sessions for pre-schoolers at Oswestry Library, every Monday afternoon at 2pm (excluding school holidays). No need to book, just come along!


Time to Listen

Have you heard of 'Time to Listen'? It's an hour of stories and poems, read aloud, specifically for adults. It is a wonderful way to unwind, with no requirements apart from to sit back with a cup of tea and listen.

No booking required, just come to the library on the first and third Tuesday of the month, 2-3pm. July dates are the 3rd and 17th.
