Whittington 2019 - decision time ... for the best Christmas present Ready for a Prague Spring! | | Czech Mates: Dvořák and the Bohemians 21-26 May 2019 Whittington Church Nr Oswestry | | You will be as excited as I am by the news that, thanks to you, next May's festival is now financially secure, and we can get on with delivering what promises to be our most popular programme yet. Six concerts of delightful and memorable music from the heartlands of Bohemia will be performed by ten international artists, some of whom are already Whittington favourites. You will find all the details on our updated website. I am proud to be chairman of a festival which is so enthusiastically and generously supported. My last mailing in September spoke of our disappointment that Arts Council funding is now apparently diverted in other directions, and made an appeal for new sponsors and Friends to guarantee the 2019 festival. The Arts Council turned down a second application, but the response from you was incredible. In all, eight households each gave £500 or £1000 to sponsor a concert, and our Friends Scheme (Benefactors, Patrons and Friends) grew almost overnight by 50% from a membership of 53 to 78. Alongside all this, we have been able to attract some grant funding from other sources. Thanks once again to all of you. | | Tickets and Festival Passes | | So now we just need you, your friends and family there on the night. Tickets go on public sale from January 14, and we will be sending out brochures around that time to those of you for whom we have a postal address. Friends and sponsors have a priority booking period before that date, and will receive details about that shortly from Jane Stirling, our Friends Secretary. | | Best-ever Christmas present! | | In the meantime, why not buy someone the Christmas present they would really love? Send them a Ticket Token worth £30 for two tickets to redeem once tickets come on sale. Click here for full details. By the way, we are fortunate to have engaged Professor Jan Smaczny of Queen's University Belfast to introduce the festival and talk about the music that you will be hearing. Happy Christmas indeed!
