Final arrangements for the beacon to commemorate the end of the First World War.
Centenary of end of WWI
As well as the church service in the morning on Sunday 11/11/2018 the following is planned in the field at Rock House SY4 1LR (directly above the war memorial:
NO DOGS. NO VEHICULAR ACCESS.
Parking at Rock House only available for blue badge holders
Others may park at St John's Primary School
6.45pm Assemble in the field
6.55pm Charlie Rutherford, pupil at Packwood Haugh will sound: 'The Last Post'.
7.00pm Beacon lighting. (Along with at least 1000 others nationwide)
Symbolising an end to the darkness of war and a return to the light of peace.
7.05pm Over 1000 churches will ring their bells across the nation and beyond as a celebration of peace. St John's in Ruyton will ring until 7.15pm.
7.05pm A Cry for Peace Around the World.
7.10pm Wendy Lowdon will recite a WWI poem
7.20pm Rev Lucinda Burns: "A Tribute to the Millions"
This will be followed reading the names of the fallen and then a medley of songs.
7.40pm End of event. Optional visit to the war memorial to pay personal respects.
7.50pm All welcome at The Talbot Inn: Hot Pot Supper (must be pre-booked)
