RIP Den Corfield

DEN CORFIELD

We were very sorry to hear of the death of Den Corfield on September 17th, aged 95 years.  Den`s funeral is today,  at 2pm at St. John the Baptist Church, Ruyton XI Towns

He, like Reg Parry, were two of the Old Ruytonions who made me and Roger so welcome in the Ruyton pubs when we arrived in the village in 1969.  And, it was thanks to them, and all the other older people we met in the pubs and the shop, who made me so interested in the history of Ruyton XI Towns - what they knew, or had been told by their grandparents, was real history.

Den`s delightful wife Noon who brightened the village shop and could be seen round the village on her bicycle, was one of those ladies from the shop who everyone loved.

Den & Noon`s son, Pete, also one of the local pub community who met, laughed, remembered and told stories in The Bridge, The Top House and The Dog.  I was so lucky that Pete agreed to do the illustrations in my Ruyton book, particularly to make the Burlton to Llanymynech Turnpike and the Baggy Moor Drainage Acts understandable.

How we miss those conviviable pubs and the stimulating chaps and their wives who populated them.
