Kinokulture, sad news

Message from Kinokulture independent cinema in Oswestry - a sad loss for the community

A Special News bulletin To all Of Our Loyal Audiences, New Customers, Friends & Supporters

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we have come to the very  difficult decision to close kinokulture cinema at the end of March 2023.

We set up in Oswestry in September 2010 and are privileged to have been able to bring the wonder & magic of cinema back to the town over these past 12 years. Sharing laughter, tears, conversations, entertaining, educating, exploring new worlds and new ways of seeing through so many films.

2019 was most definitely our high point but then along came the pandemic with multiple lockdowns and just as we emerged from that we have been hit by the energy crisis and the cost of living crisis.

It is difficult enough to keep a single screen cinema going in the best of times but as we head into this unknown future of spiralling costs and lack of security on our tenancy we felt that this was the only decision we could make.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us over the past 12 years especially our colleagues at the BFI Film Audience Networks, the Independent Cinema Office and our film festival partners as well as all of you, our wonderful audience.

But .... we still have many wonderful films and cinematic experiences to bring to you over next few months!

Still to come this month we have 'Lost Illusions' & 'Peter Von Kant' as part of the French Film Festival UK, The special 50th Anniversary screening of Blaxploitation Cult Classic 'Blacula', the timely documentary 'The Oil Machine' dramas 'Emily', 'Juniper' and 'Hilma' and the Afro Futurist sci-fi spectacle 'Neptune Frost'.

In December we bring you 'The Banshees Of Inisherin'. Bill Nighy in 'Living' and 'Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical', two brilliant new films from master filmmakers with Park Chan Wook's 'Decision To Leave' and Jafar Panahi's 'No Bears' and much much more, so please do visit our website to find out what's coming up.

And March will be a whole month of special celebrations showcasing the very best of independent cinema with the return of the WOW: Wales One World & Borderlines Flm Festivals to our screen.

On our website you can view trailers and information on each film by clicking on the image or film title.

We thank you all & hope you will continue to visit us and enjoy coming together for a Big Screen experience over the next few months.

Please help us to continue offering a diverse choice of films by taking this short survey

We are thrilled to be supported by Film Hub Midlands through the BFI Film Audience Network with funds from The National Lottery. The aim of this support is to give everyone in the UK the opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of British & international independent films and without this support we would not be able to offer such a wide range of independent & world cinema.

From time to time the BFI ask us to survey a sample of our audience so that they can continue to improve their offer and support for independent cinemas and their audiences.

If you have visited kinokulture over the past few months we hope you will spare a few minutes to take this short online survey and help us to continue bringing a diverse film programme to Oswestry audiences over the next few months.

With Grateful Thanks!

We would like to say a huge thank you to the BFI and DCMS for their support through the Cultural Recovery Fund, to BFI Film Hub Midlands & Film Hub Wales for their continuing support through the FAN Film Audience Network: Cinema & Exhibition funds and to everyone for all the wonderful kind words of support and donations.
