Break for the Borderlands - Christmas | | There's a bustling market town in Shropshire that knows exactly how to celebrate a special kind of Christmas and you are invited! Visit Oswestry this December and be ready to create your own special Christmas experience. We have spectacular events that are sure to spark your festive spirit. Begin with Christmas Live with rides, late night markets, music and fireworks. Don't miss the Christmas Parade with a fantastic float procession through historic streets and stay to browse – there are lots of indie shops and markets to browse for Christmas goodies. You could take a Santa ride on a heritage railway, an afternoon tea on the 'stream across the sky' at Pontycyllte Aqueduct or visit Father Christmas himself at one of the many Christmas Grottos. Then take some time out to enjoy the festive treats on offer at our friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants. This is Christmas time in Oswestry – a Shropshire market town. | | For one night only! Join us for one of the largest and most spectacular, night-time Christmas events in Shropshire. Oswestry town centre is turned into a festival of fun with huge amusement rides, curling alley, Christmas stalls and late-night shopping. The Bailey Head market square is ready to rock with live music and Father Christmas will be there in his grotto. Kick your Christmas off in style! The fun starts at 5pm. | | It's Christmas Parade Day and there's a carnival atmosphere in Oswestry's town centre. Our Rotary organises a fantastic procession throughout the town centre of everything from vintage trucks to the biggest Christmas themed floats. Get here early to be sure of a good spot – you might get lucky and catch some of the sweet treats from the floats. Starts at 11am. | | Oswestry has a thriving high street. With its bustling market atmosphere and charming cobbled alleys, Oswestry is the perfect destination for browsing award-winning independent shops and market stalls for Christmas goodies. There's an Artisan Market on the 23rd December, which is extra special, so expect Christmas gifts, crafts and lovely festive food producers. | | Park Hall Countryside Experience has a great new Christmas show featuring some of Santa's Top Elves! The live pantomime, Elf Academy, will have you singing and dancing in your seat, and Santa's elves will be providing entertainment before and after your little ones visit the big man himself, Santa! Starts 3rd December | | | The British Ironwork Centre's Santa's Grotto is a magical experience. Meet Mr & Mrs Claus, explore the ice cave and visit the elves in the workshop. Starts 26th Nov – 16th Dec. Or how about a Christmas Safari? Hawkstone Follies Safari starts 2nd to 23rd Dec. Be whisked off by Landrover to Santa's caves and wander around the fairy-lit caverns & tunnels to reach the grotto. | | | If you want to escape from the shopping and the partying this Christmas, head out to our beautiful borderland countryside. Winter walks by the rivers, meres and canals always fill your soul with the good stuff. Catch a red kite flying above, a heron diving for fish and marvel at our waterfalls. A spectacular view is never far away. | | | Looking for Christmas gift ideas? Pop into the Tourist Information Centre for some fantastic books, local crafts and souvenirs.
