Dear Blogger,
Message from Kinokulture, Oswestry`s Independent Cinema
Apologies for this going out late but it was held back due to the problems with BT internet addresses.
Welcome To Our June Newsletter We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has expressed their concerns and given kind words of support to us over the future of kinokulture. We would also like to thank BFI Film Hub Midlands who are continuing to support us in bringing a wide range of British & international films to Oswestry through the BFI with support from the National Lottery. The good news is that we are working with the Independent Cinema Office and our colleagues at the BFI Film Audience Network to build a framework on how we can transfer the cinema over into community ownership. Over the Summer months we will be working on creating a Community Share Offer which we hope to launch in September ... so watch this space! June At A Glance! The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a road comedy following two drag queens (Hugo Weaving andf Guy Pearce) and a transgender woman (Terence Stamp) as they journey across the remote Australian Outback from Sydney to Alice Springs in a tour bus that they have named "Priscilla." Along the way they encounter various groups and individuals, from supportive Aboriginal Australians to hostile back-of-beyond small-towners. The film was a surprise worldwide hit, and its positive portrayal of LGBT individuals helped to introduce LGBT themes to a mainstream audience. A clever and witty script, outrageous (Oscar-winning) costumes, stunning scenery, a beaty soundtrack, and above all a darned good story have maintained a kind of iconic popularity for the film - and it's one not to be missed. "It presents a defiant culture clash in generous, warmly entertaining ways" - the New York Times. ? While its premise is ripe for comedy - and it certainly delivers its fair share of laughs - 'Priscilla' is also a surprisingly tender and thoughtful road movie with some oustanding performances. ?
